That is a role-based starting approach, not an official best-in-slot build. The Coalition has not published a ranked Assault mod combination, so tune unlocked weapons and gear to the mission and your squad.
What the Assault class is built to do
The official Gears of War multiplayer overview describes Assault as a flexible midrange Horde Siege class. Its two defining features shape a useful starting approach:

- Cover damage bonus: Assault deals increased damage while in cover. Use cover as a firing position rather than assuming you should stay in one place throughout a wave.
- Sonic Disruptor: This ability stuns waves of incoming enemies and is particularly useful when defending an objective.
The overview establishes these class traits, but it does not name a best weapon, Armor Mod, Tactical Gear Mod, or Weapon Mod combination.
How to play Assault in Horde Siege
Take useful cover along the route
Choose cover that lets you contribute at midrange and still respond as the fight moves. The official gameplay overview emphasizes reading the combat space and moving from cover to cover. Applying that principle to Assault means looking for useful firing positions around the route to the next objective, not treating the cover bonus as a reason to remain stationary.

Use the Sonic Disruptor to stabilize a defense
Save the stun for a moment when incoming enemies are putting an objective under pressure or when stopping a wave can give the squad room to recover its position. The ability’s wave-stunning effect and defensive use are official class guidance; choosing the exact moment is a tactical judgment based on the encounter.
Fit your position to the squad
Look at the mission and the roles your teammates chose before deciding where Assault can help most. The developer says, “While our classes are meant to complement one another; there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.” It also describes experimentation between missions, including all-Breacher squads, so there is no official requirement to bring a particular number of Assault players.

Choose mods around what you need
At launch, each class has 30 progression levels, which unlock weapons, equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods. Weapon customization is shared across classes, according to the multiplayer overview. As you unlock options, choose upgrades that address a real need—such as weapon handling or survivability—rather than chasing a supposedly proven Assault recipe.

- Mission and objective: Consider where the squad is likely to defend and whether you need to contribute from midrange.
- Unlocks: Build around the Armor, Tactical Gear, and Weapon Mods you actually have available.
- Squad needs: Decide whether objective defense is a priority or another role better fits the mission. There is no fixed class count required by the developer.
- Current tuning: Check current patch notes before relying on weapon values from an older guide.
Keep the advice scoped to Horde Siege
This build approach is for Horde Siege, where class progression and weapon or gear mods are part of the setup. The official multiplayer overview says Versus uses fair starts and does not have weapon mods, so the same progression-based build logic does not apply directly to that mode.

The Coalition’s launch-period update reports post-beta changes to weapons including Prototype Lancer, Lancer Mk1, Vulcan, Hammerburst, Gnasher, and Snub, as well as movement and cover behavior. Because those changes make beta-era values unreliable as a general reference, consult the current patch notes for the version you are playing. No specific weapon statistic is needed to use the role-based starting approach above.
