What happened in Norwood
The incident was reported just before 2 p.m. Friday, October 2, near 3174 Rochambeau Avenue, within the 52nd Precinct’s confines. The victim was a 33-year-old off-duty NYPD detective assigned to the 44th Precinct, according to amNewYork’s October 3 report.
The detective was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and was reported in stable condition by amNewYork and News 12 New Jersey.
Why police were looking for two suspects
As of October 3, reports said police were seeking two suspects. Local coverage reported that the pair approached on a motorized bike or e-bike and fled on it. Details that the suspects tried to take the detective’s chain, along with the reported sequence of the encounter, came from sources familiar with the case; they should be understood as reported details, not a final official finding.

Have the suspects been arrested or identified?
The October 2 and October 3 reports did not confirm an arrest or identify the suspects. That describes the status in those reports, not whether there has been a later development. They also did not establish a full public suspect description.
