Saint-Gobain completed its acquisition of Xypex on October 1, 2026. Saint-Gobain, which acquired construction-chemicals company Chryso in 2021, said Xypex will add crystalline waterproofing products for concrete to its construction-solutions portfolio.
What happened in the Xypex deal?
Saint-Gobain announced a definitive agreement to acquire Xypex on July 6, 2026, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals. At the time, it expected the deal to close in the fourth quarter. The company announced completion on October 1, 2026, replacing that earlier estimate with a confirmed closing date. Saint-Gobain’s completion announcement identifies the acquired company as Xypex (North America).
Why is Chryso’s parent involved?
Saint-Gobain completed its acquisition of Chryso on September 29, 2021. That is why the deal may be described as an acquisition by Chryso’s parent: Saint-Gobain is the parent company in that framing. At the time of the Chryso deal, Saint-Gobain described Chryso as a construction-chemicals company with approximately €400 million in annual sales and around 1,300 employees. Those figures were published in 2021 and are historical deal-announcement metrics, not current figures. Saint-Gobain’s Chryso completion announcement
What does Xypex make?
Saint-Gobain describes Xypex as a global supplier of crystalline waterproofing admixtures and coatings, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, and serving customers in more than 100 countries. Its July 2026 announcement named the Admix C-Series, Concentrate, and Bio-San technology. The acquisition announcement and the completion release present these products as solutions for waterproofing concrete.

- STRONG AND SECURE BONDING — Add as a bonding grout or admixture to cement, concrete, or mortar for increased adhesion and impressive tensile strength
- DURABLE IN THE ELEMENTS — This acrylic concrete fortifier resists damage from repeated freezing and thawing for a more stable bond, reducing the need for upkeep and maintenance
- PERFECT FOR MANY PROJECTS OR JOBS — Simple to use and stores easily for home DIYers and professionals. No dilution is needed, so preparation work is quick
- FORMULATED FOR PERFORMANCE — Made with an acrylic-polymer latex that turns into a hardened concrete with 500 psi bond strength. You get superior reliability and a better overall performance
- VERSATILE AND HIGH QUALITY — Use as a cement bonding adhesive or as an acrylic coating primer for grout. It won't produce a vapor barrier and achieves a denser, tougher surface
Crystalline waterproofing is intended to protect concrete structures. Saint-Gobain says the technology can be used as a standalone solution or in combination with membrane systems. Its October 2026 release says the approach can enhance durability and service life, extend asset life, and reduce maintenance requirements. These are the acquirer’s stated product-category benefits, not independently verified comparative test findings.
What Saint-Gobain says the acquisition adds
Saint-Gobain says Xypex’s technology complements a portfolio that already includes membranes, liquid-applied systems, injection products, and repair technologies. The company’s stated rationale is to offer customers additional ways to address waterproofing and concrete durability needs, including the option of combining crystalline products with membranes.

The high-actives formula is UV stable, has smaller active particles for deep penetration, and lasts 50% longer than other siloxane sealers for years of worry-free protection.
- ULTIMATE SEALER PROTECTION: CS-9500 creates an impregnating hydrophobic water beading effect that mitigates cracks, pits & spalls, and shields against deicing salts. The perfect sealer for concrete, brick & masonry, it resists moisture intrusion and waterproofs your surface with 30-50% more resistance than other leading sealers on the market.
- NATURAL FINISH & LOW VOC FORMULA: CS-9500 is the latest technology of impregnating sealers that uses low-VOC BEEST-SEAL technology to be 100% breathable and non-film forming. The natural finish leaves your concrete, bricks, stone, and pavers with their original natural appearance and does not create a slippery surface.
- D.O.T APPROVED: CS-9500 meets D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) guidelines and is the best way to protect against freeze thaw damage to your surfaces. The ultra-high active particles penetrate deep to protect against cracking, spalling, and pitting and prevent surface damage caused by deicing salts and chlorides. Covers 125 - 200 sq ft per gallon (two coats) and can last up to 5 years for ground application and up to 10 years for vertical application when applied properly.

The official announcements confirm that the deal has closed, identify Xypex’s product category, and explain Saint-Gobain’s strategic rationale. They do not provide independent comparative test data that would establish whether crystalline waterproofing outperforms membranes or other systems, or which approach is best for a particular project. The releases also do not establish retailer availability or current product stock.

- DEEP PENETRATING WATER REPELLENT — This ready-to-use penetrating concrete sealer soaks into porous concrete and masonry instead of sitting on top, helping reduce water and moisture absorption from rain, snow and seasonal weather. Ideal for concrete driveways, patios, sidewalks and other exposed surfaces where freeze-thaw stress is a concern.
- CLEAR, FULLY BREATHABLE NATURAL LOOK — The clear formula preserves the original appearance of your concrete without a heavy glossy or wet-look finish. This breathable concrete sealant lets moisture vapor escape from inside the slab while helping resist outside moisture, and it will not peel, flake or delaminate like film-forming sealers.
- FOR POROUS CONCRETE & MASONRY SURFACES — Use this concrete sealer outdoor waterproof treatment on properly prepared concrete driveways, garage floors, patios, sidewalks, walls, stamped concrete, brick, pavers and compatible stone. Designed for absorbent mineral surfaces; not intended for vinyl, glazed tile or other non-absorbent surfaces.
- READY TO USE — NO MIXING OR DILUTION — The low-viscosity formula is designed to penetrate porous surfaces rather than sit on top as a thick coating. Apply with a concrete sealer spray, roller or brush to a clean, dry surface. Dries to touch in 1-2 hours at 70°F; allow 2-4 hours between coats. Let newly poured concrete set for 28 days before sealing.
- COVERAGE FOR HOME & COMMERCIAL PROJECTS — One gallon covers approximately 150-350 sq. ft. depending on surface porosity, condition and application rate. Suitable for concrete sealer indoor and outdoor projects including garage floor sealer use, driveways, patios and masonry; not intended as a crack, joint or gap filler.
For a project-level decision, compare the application method, the project specification, compatibility with other waterproofing systems, and the available maintenance and service-life evidence. The announcements alone are not enough to rank systems or predict performance on a specific structure.
