Freddy Fazbear has finally arrived in Fortnite, making a fan meme from late 2021 look unexpectedly prophetic. The image paired Freddy with Goku, Darth Vader, and Sonic—a deliberately implausible roster that became less far-fetched as Fortnite added more licensed characters.
What was the Freddy Fazbear Fortnite meme?
As reported by MeriStation, a fan image posted on X in late 2021 brought together Goku, Freddy Fazbear, Darth Vader, and Sonic. The joke was the combination itself: characters from unrelated franchises appearing to share a Fortnite roster.
It was not an official Fortnite announcement or a confirmed plan for those four characters to arrive together. It was a fan-made image that captured how unpredictable the game’s crossover lineup seemed.
How did the meme become reality?
The payoff came in stages. Goku and Darth Vader had entered Fortnite before the 2026 season in which Sonic and Freddy were also part of the game’s crossover story. On October 1, 2026, MeriStation reported that Fortnite’s update included Freddy Fazbear. The Fortnite account acknowledged the old joke with the line “dreams really do come true ♥️,” as attributed by MeriStation.

- HAUNTED BUILD EXPERIENCE: With 571 pieces, this detailed set captures Freddy’s eerie charm straight from the game, perfect for fans who know that nothing good happens after hours
- SUPER ARTICULATED & POSEABLE: Standing 11 inches tall, Freddy features articulated ball joints on every limb, letting you recreate tense poses or that moment right before the jumpscare
- EXPRESSIONS THAT STARE BACK: Adjust the eyebrows, tilt the head, and open the mouth to change Freddy’s expression, from stage-ready performer to full-on nightmare fuel
- ICONIC DETAILS: From his signature top hat and bowtie to the microphone that never lets go, every detail is designed to feel authentic to the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe
That made the meme’s central premise—Freddy in Fortnite—real, even though the original image was not an official announcement that all four characters would arrive as a single crossover.
Why did fans think the FNAF collaboration would be Dead by Daylight?
In 2024, alleged leaks and a cryptic post from Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon encouraged fans to expect a collaboration, with Fortnite among the possibilities. When the partnership was announced on August 5, it was with Dead by Daylight, not Fortnite. Know Your Meme documents that rumor history, while marking its entry as under research and evaluation: Five Nights at Freddy’s x Dead by Daylight.

That detour helps explain why Freddy appearing in Fortnite felt like wishful thinking for years. A real FNAF crossover had happened, but it was with another game.
