Brunswick’s announced CEO succession points to continuity, not a proven change of course, for its digital boating strategy. Áine Denari, already the company’s chief technology officer and Navico Group president, is set to become CEO on January 1, 2027. She has said Brunswick will continue executing the strategy presented at its 2026 Investor Day. That makes technology likely to remain prominent, but the announcement does not establish a new investment target, faster product schedule, or strategic pivot.

What Brunswick announced

On September 21, 2026, Brunswick announced that CEO and Chairman David Foulkes will retire at the end of the year and that Denari will become CEO effective January 1, 2027. Lead Independent Director David Everitt is scheduled to become Non-Executive Chairman on the same date. The transition is announced but not yet effective.

Denari has been Executive Vice President and President of Navico Group and Brunswick CTO since August 2024. Brunswick says she oversees technology strategy and advanced development, including autonomy programs and the Boating Intelligence DesignLab at the University of Illinois. The company describes her as having more than 30 years of experience across automotive, mobility, industrial, and manufacturing businesses.

What Brunswick means by digital boating

Brunswick’s 2025 Form 10-K describes priorities that include intuitive digital consumer experiences and leadership in AI and ACES applications: autonomy, connectivity, electrification, and shared access. The company presents these priorities as ways to improve boating experiences, broaden participation, advance technology, and support growth. Its businesses span marine propulsion, boats, parts and accessories, and marine electronics.

The 2026 Investor Day frames the broader strategy around growth, advancing marine technology, enhancing customer experiences, and strengthening Brunswick’s position in recreational boating. Denari’s succession announcement provides the clearest signal about what changes next: she said the company would keep executing the Investor Day strategy.

What Denari’s background could mean

Putting an executive with both a technology remit and marine-business leadership at the top of the company could help maintain continuity between technology development and corporate decisions. Denari already leads Navico Group and, as CTO, is responsible for technology strategy and autonomy development. That combination makes a continued emphasis on technology a reasonable reading of the appointment.

It is an interpretation of her documented roles, not a company forecast of a new reporting structure or a promise of accelerated development. Brunswick’s succession announcement does not quantify digital investment, set product-launch dates, forecast adoption or revenue, or specify when autonomy features will be deployed. Claims that Denari will “double down,” speed up digital boating, or pivot the strategy go beyond what the announcement establishes.

AutoCaptain illustrates the existing technology portfolio

Brunswick says Denari helped drive innovation from Lowrance and Simrad, including AutoCaptain, which the company calls “the market’s first fully integrated autonomous boat docking solution.” That is Brunswick’s characterization; the available company statements do not independently establish a market-wide first. The example shows the kind of autonomy work associated with the portfolio, but the cited announcements do not establish consumer availability, compatibility, or a direct link to chartplotter retail products.

What to watch after the handover

The appointment alone cannot show how strategy will be executed. To tell continuity from a genuine change in direction, watch for concrete disclosures after Denari takes office, such as:

  • New or revised technology investment commitments, rather than general aspirations.
  • Product announcements with specific timing, availability, and supported systems.
  • Evidence of customer adoption or financial contribution from digital and autonomy offerings.
  • Changes to the stated ACES priorities or to the growth and customer-experience strategy.

Until such evidence appears, the most supportable conclusion is that Brunswick has chosen a successor already closely involved in technology and has publicly signaled strategic continuity.
