Airbus Defence and Space says it delivered the first 32 next-generation OneWeb satellites to Eutelsat on 2 October 2026. They were still being prepared for shipment from Airbus’s facility in Toulouse, France, for an upcoming launch in the United States. The announcement confirms delivery to Eutelsat—not that the satellites had already left Toulouse or reached orbit.
What happened to the first new OneWeb satellites?
Airbus Defence and Space announced that it had delivered 32 latest-generation OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to Eutelsat. The spacecraft were being prepared for shipment from Airbus’s constellation production facility in Toulouse ahead of a US launch. Airbus did not identify the launch provider or give a launch date in its 2 October 2026 announcement.
So, “shipped” is premature if it means the satellites had already departed the factory: Airbus described preparation for shipment, not a completed departure. The release also does not say they have launched.
How this batch fits into OneWeb’s satellite renewal
Airbus describes the 32 spacecraft as the first wave of a planned 669-satellite next-generation OneWeb fleet. The company says the new satellites are intended to progressively replace spacecraft nearing the end of their operational lives and support continuity and enhanced network capability. Those are stated program goals, not independently measured service outcomes.

The order and launch plans announced around the same period are related context, but they are separate from this delivered batch:
| Date | Announcement | How it relates to the first 32 |
|---|---|---|
| 17 December 2024 | Eutelsat selected Airbus to build the first 100 satellites for the OneWeb constellation extension, with deliveries initially targeted to begin at the end of 2026. Eutelsat announcement | The 2024 contract provides earlier program context; Airbus’s 2026 release identifies the first delivered batch as 32. |
| 10 September 2026 | Eutelsat announced plans to procure a further 229 OneWeb satellites from Airbus to support replenishment and expansion through 2034. Eutelsat announcement | This is a separate additional procurement announcement; the 229 are not part of the 32 delivered. |
| 10 September 2026 | Eutelsat selected Arianespace for two dedicated OneWeb missions scheduled for 2027 and 2028 on Ariane 64 rockets from French Guiana. Eutelsat announcement | These are distinct future missions. Eutelsat’s announcement does not assign the first 32 satellites to either one. |
What is known about the launch?
For this batch, Airbus said only that a launch in the United States was upcoming. The release does not name a launch company, rocket, launch date, or departure date from Toulouse. Eutelsat’s separately announced Arianespace missions are scheduled for 2027 and 2028 from French Guiana, so they should not be treated as the launch plan for these 32 spacecraft.

What the milestone means—and does not yet show
The delivery marks progress in manufacturing and renewing OneWeb’s satellite fleet. Airbus and Eutelsat have framed the renewal as a way to sustain connectivity as older spacecraft approach the end of their operational lives. The announcement provides no independent measurement of improved coverage, capacity, speed, or customer experience; those outcomes cannot be inferred from delivery alone.
In the Airbus release, Eutelsat CEO Jean-François Fallacher described the satellites as heading for launch and said the milestone demonstrated a commitment to continued customer connectivity. Airbus’s Head of Space Systems, Alain Fauré, characterized it as evidence of industrial relocalisation and high-volume delivery capability. These are statements by company executives, not third-party assessments.
