Kawhi Leonard was working through a phased ramp-up at Toronto Raptors training camp and had not yet taken part in contact drills, according to an October 1, 2026 report. He was considered unlikely to play in Toronto’s Saturday preseason opener against Miami, but coach Darko Rajakovic reportedly left the possibility open. That was an expectation, not a confirmed lineup decision.
What Leonard was doing at camp
The October 1 update from CBS Sports, citing TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, described Leonard as easing into camp in phases. At the time of the report, he had not participated in contact drills. It did not establish that he was practicing fully or provide a medical explanation for the ramp-up.
Sportsnet’s September 30 video listings said Leonard spoke with media on the second day of camp about his first impressions, Rajakovic and his three-point shooting. The listings provide topic descriptions, not an accessible transcript, so they do not establish his precise comments or add detail about his practice workload.
Will Leonard play against Miami?
He was considered unlikely to play in Toronto’s Saturday preseason opener against Miami, as reported October 1. Rajakovic reportedly said the team would consider playing him, leaving open the possibility of an appearance. The report did not confirm a final decision or the eventual game result.

What Toronto’s load-management plan means
Toronto had indicated it developed a load-management plan for the 2026–27 season. The October 1 reports did not disclose its terms, schedule or how it would apply to particular games. The existence of a plan therefore does not specify when Leonard would play or sit.
