The Andover-One DD is a component turntable with a notably adjustable feature set: digitally controlled direct drive, three playback speeds, optical start and end-of-record automation, and a carbon-fiber tonearm with adjustable vertical tracking angle. Andover Audio’s published specifications explain what is included, but they do not establish that it sounds better than a typical $999 deck. Yahoo Tech reported a $999 launch price on October 2, 2026; check current listings for today’s price and availability.
What technology does the Andover-One DD include?
Andover Audio describes the DD as a component turntable rather than an all-in-one record player. Its feature list combines speed control and automatic operation with setup adjustments more commonly useful to owners who expect to tune or change a cartridge.
| Feature | What Andover specifies | Practical significance |
|---|---|---|
| Drive and speed | Digitally controlled direct drive; 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM; speed accuracy within 0.2%; wow and flutter below 0.15% (Andover Audio, product specifications, 2026) | Direct drive means the platter is driven by the motor rather than a belt. The published figures describe the maker’s specifications, not independent measurements. |
| Tonearm | 8.8-inch carbon-fiber arm; tracking force, anti-skating, and vertical tracking angle (VTA) adjustment; removable SME-style headshell (Andover Audio, product specifications, 2026) | These adjustments give owners options when setting up or changing a cartridge, but do not guarantee that every cartridge is compatible or will perform optimally. |
| Cartridge | Factory-installed Audio-Technica AT-VM520xEB moving-magnet cartridge (Andover Audio, product specifications, 2026) | The turntable comes with a cartridge installed. Check fit and stylus suitability before choosing a replacement, particularly for 78 RPM records. |
| Automation | Optical auto-start and end-of-record auto-stop (Andover Audio, product specifications, 2026) | Andover says optical sensing starts playback and stops and lifts the arm at the record’s end without traditional mechanical contact. |
| Platter and chassis | Internally damped cast-aluminum platter, anti-resonant silicone mat, thick MDF plinth, and vibration-absorbing leveling feet (Andover Audio, product specifications, 2026) | These are construction details. They do not by themselves establish measured resonance or audible superiority. |
What the features mean in everyday use
Direct drive and the published speed figures
Andover emphasizes pitch stability and low vibration as benefits of its digitally controlled direct-drive design. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent test findings. The published speed accuracy and wow-and-flutter figures likewise come from Andover’s specifications; they should not be read as results from a third-party test.
Three speeds—and a 78 RPM caveat
The DD is specified for 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM records. Playing at 78 RPM is only part of the requirement: the stylus must also be appropriate for the record. Andover’s page uses a dedicated 78 RPM needle as an example of a cartridge change, but the available material does not establish a particular recommended cartridge or stylus. Confirm compatibility for the records you own before buying a replacement.

Optical start and end-of-record operation
Andover says optical sensing starts playback and detects the record’s end, where the mechanism stops and lifts the arm. This describes the company’s implementation; it is not evidence from a comparative test against other automation systems.
Adjustments for setup and upgrades
Tracking force and anti-skating are relevant when setting up a cartridge, while VTA adjustment lets an owner alter the arm’s vertical tracking geometry. A removable SME-style headshell makes cartridge changes more convenient than a permanently fixed headshell. These options bring flexibility, but also mean setup is less preset-and-forget than on a basic fixed-adjustment deck. Check cartridge dimensions and compatibility rather than assuming every model will fit or work well.

- TRUE AUDIOPHILE SOUND: The Andover-One SB delivers room-filling clarity, warmth, and precision. Inside, the SB features the same custom multi-driver array, high-output amplification, and advanced DSP as the original Andover-One. Front- and side-firing drivers create an expansive, immersive soundstage from a compact footprint that fits neatly beneath most turntables.
- CRYSTAL-CLEAR PLAYBACK: Thanks to IsoGroove Technology, the Andover-One SB lets you place your turntable directly on the speaker without worrying about feedback or vibrations. Just enjoy pure undistorted playback—even at higher volumes.
- ELEGANT, COMPACT DESIGN: Hand-crafted wood cabinet, wraparound grill, and minimalist control interface—built to complement high-end turntables and refined living spaces.
- FLEXIBLE CONNECTIVITY: Built-in phono preamp, analog line input, digital optical input, and Bluetooth aptX for seamless source switching.
- INTUITIVE INTERFACE: Inputs, outputs, and options are all accessible from a simple-to-use interface on located on the front face of Andover-One SB. It’s designed for anyone to use it—not the techno wizard of the house. Adjust listening modes (Mono/Stereo/Panoramic S,M,L), EQ settings, and more.
Platter, mat, plinth, and feet
The cast-aluminum platter, silicone mat, MDF plinth, and leveling feet are the materials and design elements Andover lists. The company describes its construction in vibration-control terms, but the published details alone do not quantify resonance or prove a particular sound quality.
What else do you need to play records?
The DD page does not list built-in speakers, Bluetooth, USB, or an internal phono preamp. Andover says it can connect to a receiver’s phono input, to an external phono preamplifier, or to the company’s Andover-One SB speaker base. In a conventional setup, plan on a phono input or separate phono stage, amplification, and speakers.

- Sleek design with heathered fabric wrap grill
- Powerful speaker system with Dual Direct Drive amplification
- Patented ISOGroove technology prevents feedback to any turntable place directly on top
- IR remote control for adjustment of input, volume, and tone controls
- Inputs include Phono, BT, Analog, Optical Digital, and USB music files
Andover describes the SB as a powered speaker base with a built-in phono preamp, analog and digital inputs, and Bluetooth. It is an optional compact-system partner, not a feature built into the DD. Check current DD/SB compatibility, availability, and pricing before choosing that pairing.
Is it more equipped than a typical $999 turntable?
The phrase “average $999 deck” is not a measured market comparison: the available figures do not define an average or a representative set of competing turntables. The DD’s published feature list is specific, but the evidence does not support saying it outperforms every similarly priced model or sounds better than a named rival. No independent hands-on or controlled comparison against a named $999 competitor is established here.
