Gabe Perreault opened the Rangers’ 2026–27 season with a goal and an assist across back-to-back games. New York’s official postgame notes confirm the production, but do not establish whether his goal was a clean shot or a deflection—so the “sniping” label remains unverified by the available summaries.
What Perreault did in the Rangers’ first three games
Perreault scored in the Rangers’ Oct. 2, 2026 home opener against Tampa Bay, according to the team’s Oct. 2 postgame notes. In its Oct. 3 notes, New York said he recorded a point in back-to-back games, with one goal and one assist. Those two games make up the stated point streak; the notes place the Rangers at 2-1-0 after three games.
The team’s wording is precise: “Gabe Perreault recorded a point in back-to-back games (1G-1A).” That verifies the early scoring output, not a particular shooting technique.
Does “sniping” describe the goal?
The postgame summaries identify Perreault as a goal scorer but do not say how the puck went in. They do not characterize the goal as a clean shot, identify a deflection, or provide shot-level details. On those records alone, it is accurate to call this a goal and a productive opening stretch, but not to assert that he scored by “sniping.”

The Rangers’ site lists official video titled “TBL@NYR: Perreault scores goal against Andrei Vasilevskiy.” The listing confirms that footage exists, but its accompanying text does not verify the scoring mechanics. Calling the goal a snipe would require assessing the play itself.
How the start compares with his previous season
The two-game 1G–1A opening stretch is an early sample, not evidence of a season-long scoring rate. For context, the Rangers’ 2026–27 media guide lists Perreault’s 2025–26 regular-season line as 36 games, 7 goals, 13 assists and 20 points. The new season’s first few games should be read separately from that full prior-season line rather than projected into a forecast.

Perreault’s role and team context
The Rangers’ official roster lists Perreault as forward Gabe Perreault, number 94. New York selected him in the first round, 23rd overall, in 2023, according to the club’s media guide. The team was 2-1-0 after its first three games of 2026–27, providing the early-season context for his points without changing what the small sample can show about his individual scoring.
