The Commanders ruled him out on October 2, 2026, and named Marcus Mariota to make his second start of the season.
Who is starting at quarterback for the Commanders?
Marcus Mariota is the announced starter against Indianapolis. Washington said this will be his second start of the 2026 season.
Why is Jayden Daniels out?
Daniels dislocated his left elbow in Washington’s Week 2 game against Dallas. He was limited in all three practices during the week leading up to the Colts game, and the team’s Week 4 injury report lists him as out.
Washington said Daniels’ brace prevents him from fully extending his left arm. Coach Dan Quinn described Daniels’ limited return to practice as a positive step, but the participation did not change his Week 4 status.

When could Daniels return?
Washington described Daniels as week-to-week on September 25 and said he would not be placed on injured reserve. The team reported that he had consulted multiple specialists and could return this season with a brace to reduce reinjury risk. Neither the team’s October 2 update nor the NFL’s Week 4 injury listing provides a specific return date.
