Yes. Ilya Sorokin is confirmed to start in goal for the New York Islanders against the New Jersey Devils in the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Head coach Pete DeBoer confirmed the assignment Friday, according to the Islanders’ official game preview.
When and where the Islanders play the Devils
The Islanders host New Jersey at UBS Arena on Saturday, October 3, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The start confirmation is a pregame update; it does not establish how Sorokin or the team will perform once play begins.
What Sorokin’s recent results show
In New York’s season-opening 2-1 loss to Toronto on October 1, Sorokin stopped 24 of 26 shots, according to the Islanders’ October 3 preview. That is the record of his previous appearance, not a prediction for the Devils game.
Against New Jersey in the prior season, Sorokin went 3-0-0 with a 0.99 goals-against average, a .971 save percentage and one shutout, the team preview reports. Those are past matchup statistics; they do not guarantee a similar result Saturday.
