Caleb Heavner was expected to start at quarterback for Miami (OH) against Bowling Green in Week 5, according to a RotoWire report published October 2, 2026. That was a pregame expectation—not confirmation of the final lineup. The report said David McComb was not expected to play because of injuries, but the available reporting does not establish who ultimately started.
What was reported about Heavner’s Week 5 start?
RotoWire reported on October 2, 2026, that Heavner was expected to start Miami (OH)’s Saturday game against Bowling Green. The report attributed the expected change to injuries affecting McComb and cited On3 reporter Pete Nakos. RotoWire’s report described McComb as not expected to play and said his availability for the rest of the season was unclear.
The wording matters: this was an expectation issued before the game, not a confirmed game-day lineup. The available reporting does not confirm the eventual starter or provide a final box score.
Why was Miami (OH) expected to make a quarterback change?
McComb’s injury-related availability drove the reported change. On September 29, RotoWire said McComb was doubtful for the Bowling Green game with upper- and lower-body injuries and described Heavner as likely to start. Its October 2 update said McComb was not expected to play and that his remaining-season status was uncertain. These are RotoWire’s reports; they do not independently verify a medical diagnosis or an official availability designation.

How did Heavner fit into the quarterback competition?
Heavner had not begun the 2026 season as Miami (OH)’s starter. RotoWire’s player profile says he lost the competition for the starting job to open the season. The profile also records that on June 10, he was competing with Thomas Gotkowski and McComb for the QB1 role, citing Cooper Meneghetti of The Miami Student via the G5 Hive podcast. An August 24 profile update said Heavner would not start the season, citing Nakos of On3.
The reporting therefore describes a change in circumstance: Heavner was initially not the starter, then became the expected starter for the Bowling Green game as McComb was reported unavailable.

What statistics were reported for Heavner?
RotoWire’s October 2 analysis gave Heavner a 77.8% completion rate and 5.1 yards per rushing attempt. Those are secondary-source figures; the report excerpt does not name a statistical publisher, so they should not be treated as independently confirmed official statistics.
RotoWire’s player-profile display separately lists 36 passing yards and one interception for Heavner in 2026. The profile figures and the analysis figures have different stated scopes, and the available reporting does not provide a game log or primary-stat source to reconcile them.

- Whether Heavner ultimately started against Bowling Green.
- Whether McComb was officially ruled out or what his medical status was.
- McComb’s availability for the remainder of the season.
- Official postgame statistics for Heavner.
For this matchup, the reported expectation is useful as a pregame update, but it should not be read as proof of the lineup or result.
