Before replacing a human adviser—or choosing a service called WealthAI—compare its actual advice, oversight, costs, and fit with your financial needs.
Are millions switching to WealthAI?
That claim is not established by the available evidence. Matthew Lynch’s October 3, 2026 article in The Tech Edvocate says that millions are leaving human advisers for WealthAI and refers to a 2.1% performance edge and 58% of Americans. It does not identify the originating study behind those figures. The SEC materials cited below do not verify them or confirm WealthAI’s adoption, performance, or specific features.
The same article describes WealthAI as offering automated onboarding and identity checks, risk profiling, portfolio analysis, personalized strategies, lower costs, and round-the-clock access. Those are claims made by the article, not independently verified product details. The cited official materials do not establish the provider’s legal entity, registration, jurisdiction, fees, assets, customers, custody arrangements, human support, algorithm, or track record. Do not rely on the headline or those descriptions as proof that a particular service is available, regulated, or suitable.
What does a robo-adviser do—and what does regulation mean?
A robo-adviser is an online investment-advice service that uses algorithms and often provides limited human interaction. In a 2017 investor bulletin, the SEC described robo-advisers as registered investment advisers and stated: “Robo-advisers, as registered investment advisers, are subject to the substantive and fiduciary obligations of the Advisers Act.” Read the SEC’s 2017 guidance update and investor bulletin on robo-advisers for its discussion of the service model and investor considerations.

That regulatory status is not a promise of returns, a finding that a service is right for every investor, or an SEC endorsement. Check the actual firm and the people giving advice. The SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure database (IAPD) can be used to review registration or licensing status and disciplinary history. Also read the firm’s current disclosures to understand what it does, how it invests, what risks it takes, and what conflicts may affect its recommendations.
How do automated, human, and hybrid advice compare?
Labels vary, so treat this as a comparison of common service patterns, not a description of any particular provider. Verify the real access and service terms before opening an account.
Rank #2
| Advice model | What to expect | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Automated | Algorithms generate or manage investment recommendations, often with limited access to a person. | What information drives recommendations; how the algorithm works and where it has limits; who oversees it; how accounts are monitored; and how the service handles changed circumstances. |
| Human | A person provides advice, with the degree and scope of ongoing contact depending on the service. | Who gives the advice, their registration or licensing and disciplinary history, what services are included, how recommendations are made, and all fees and conflicts. |
| Hybrid | Some combination of automated investing and access to a human adviser. | When a person is available, what issues they can address, whether access is included or costs extra, and what decisions remain automated. |
The SEC identifies human interaction, the information and assumptions behind recommendations, investment approach, algorithm limitations, human oversight, fees, and conflicts as useful points of comparison. “Hybrid” or “AI-powered” is not a substitute for finding out how the service works in practice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to judge whether the advice fits your situation
A recommendation should be based on a reasonable understanding of your circumstances and the account being recommended. Relevant details can include your financial situation, goals, assets and debts, age, time horizon, need for liquidity, risk tolerance, investment experience, and other facts that affect the decision. If a service does not ask enough to understand the circumstances that matter to your account, do not assume its output is personalized just because it uses your name or a risk score.

SEC staff guidance says that both Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI) and the investment-adviser fiduciary standard require account recommendations to be in the retail investor’s best interest and not put the firm’s interests ahead of the investor’s. The bulletin addresses account recommendations and care obligations; read the SEC staff bulletin on standards of conduct and care obligations in that scope. When evaluating a recommendation, consider its cost, conflicts, and reasonable alternatives alongside your own goals and circumstances.

How to compare services before moving money
- Decide how much human help you need. Consider whether you want access to a person for complex planning, changes in personal circumstances, or help sticking with a plan. Then verify when and how the service actually provides that access.
- Read how recommendations are made. Find out what information the provider collects, what assumptions it uses, how it monitors accounts, how it responds when circumstances change, and what it says about algorithm limits and human oversight.
- Calculate the full cost on the same basis. Look beyond the advisory charge. Include applicable fund expenses, custody and brokerage charges, and transaction costs. Compare the services using their current terms; do not assume automation makes one less expensive.
- Check the adviser and firm. Use IAPD to review registration or licensing and disciplinary history for the firm and any individual giving advice. Read current disclosures for services, methods, risks, and conflicts.
- Match the account to your needs. Check whether the proposed approach fits your goals, time horizon, liquidity needs, risk tolerance, financial situation, and investment experience. Ask what reasonable alternatives were considered and how their costs and trade-offs differ.
- Ask for evidence behind performance claims. Treat claims of an advantage as unverified unless the provider identifies credible, relevant evidence and explains how it applies to the service and your circumstances. Neither an “AI” label nor a projected return guarantees future results.
