What is Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance?
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds. TechRadar’s Sarah Thwaites reported on 3 October 2026 that the expansion is planned for release in 2027. The article does not give an exact date.
The preview’s central idea is a new aerial setting paired with additional weaponry and demanding hunts. The Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo included two quests: one against Alpha Araketa among floating islands, and another against Teostra in a volcanic cave. TechRadar presents these as examples from the demo, not a complete account of the expansion’s content.
How does the aerial gameplay work?
Crossing floating islands
In the first demo hunt, the terrain consisted of jagged islands suspended in the air, with wind affecting traversal. Thwaites used a Seikret to dive between the structures. She described the movement as somewhat rigid in that preview build; the account does not establish how traversal will work in the released expansion.

Fighting Alpha Araketa and its group
TechRadar describes Alpha Araketa as a new wyvern with a boulder-like head, wings bearing rear claws, and a long tail. In the level 2 demo quest, the Alpha and a smaller member of its species approached from the air, while another joined the attack later. The author reports attacks using the creature’s heavy head, claws, and tail, making the encounter a test of responding to threats from multiple directions.
Thwaites used the Insect Glaive to maneuver around the aerial assault. That is a report of one weapon in one demo encounter; the preview does not establish how other weapons or the final balance will perform.
What does the Boost Bracer add?
The demo’s Boost Bracer enabled weapon-specific Boost Driver attacks. TechRadar reports that the interface showed three charge slots, which lit up as the hunter attacked. With the Insect Glaive, Thwaites describes a special sequence of explosive sweeping moves that increased damage and reset momentum without requiring a separate resource.
The report does not confirm whether the charge behavior, controls, or damage balance will remain the same at launch. Treat the system as a previewed mechanic rather than a finalized feature specification.
