Tuta’s Nextcloud integration adds two specific handoffs: save an attachment from Tuta Mail to a Nextcloud folder, or insert a Nextcloud Talk link while creating a Tuta Calendar event. The plugin is described as free, but it is not a full mailbox or file synchronization service. Both sides must be configured, and the Nextcloud app must be installed on the instance users will access.
What the Tuta–Nextcloud integration does
Announced by Tuta on October 1, 2026, the integration has two parts: a Tuta Mail app installed in Nextcloud and a Nextcloud plugin enabled in Tuta. Together, they add these actions:
- Save an email attachment to Nextcloud: upload an attachment received in Tuta Mail to a Nextcloud folder with one click.
- Add a Talk link to a calendar event: when creating an event in Tuta Calendar, add a Nextcloud Talk link in the event’s location settings.
Tuta says the plugin is free. The announcement does not establish that Nextcloud hosting or every Tuta plan is free. It also does not describe importing or synchronizing an entire Tuta mailbox into Nextcloud Mail, or automatically mirroring Nextcloud files. Tuta’s launch announcement is the source for the feature descriptions.
How to set it up
There are two administrator-side steps. The Nextcloud app must be installed first; Tuta says the plugin actions work only when the app is present on the user’s own Nextcloud instance.

- 【Outperforms Pi & Outclasses Mini PCs】 One device replaces multiple boxes: NAS, router, Docker node, media server, firewall, AI edge machine, and home-cloud server. It also supports smart home workloads such as Home Assistant, Frigate, and local automation services through Docker or Linux containers—making ZimaBoard 2 an all-in-one x86 home server for homelabs, creators, engineers, and self-hosting users.
- Install the Tuta Mail app in Nextcloud. A Nextcloud administrator installs it from the Nextcloud App Store. For a family or business instance, the administrator or hosting provider must also allow users to access the app.
- Enable the plugin in Tuta. A Tuta account administrator goes to Settings → Plugins and enables the Nextcloud plugin. For an individual account, the account holder serves as the administrator.
After both steps, users can use the attachment-upload and calendar Talk-link actions. Tuta’s announcement does not give version-specific installation instructions, so check current Nextcloud and Tuta documentation for your setup before relying on these steps in a particular environment.
What to check before relying on it
- Access to apps: confirm that your Nextcloud administrator or hosting provider permits installation and use of the app.
- Your intended workflow: the announced features cover attachment handoff and adding a Talk link to a calendar event—not full email, calendar, or file synchronization.
- Compatibility and account requirements: Tuta’s announcement does not state supported Nextcloud versions, hosting-provider compatibility, or plan-by-plan requirements. Verify those details in current technical documentation.
- Security and data flow: the announcement does not explain the technical data flow or provide a security audit. It is not enough on its own to assess how information moves between the services.
What Tuta says about the release
Tuta presents the integration as an option for people and organizations looking for alternatives to Google or Microsoft services, and calls it its first officially supported Tuta plugin integration. Those are Tuta’s descriptions of its product direction, not independent assessments of privacy, security, or service sovereignty. The announcement also mentions Tuta’s Thunderbird add-on as another integration direction.
