He stopped all 25 shots in a 4-0 Blues win, earning his ninth NHL shutout and his first season-opening start in the league.
What the pregame update said
The short RotoWire fantasy-hockey update, republished by CBS Sports on October 2, 2026, said Hofer would start the Blues’ Friday road game against Dallas. St. Louis was beginning the regular season with back-to-back games: Dallas on Friday and Colorado on Saturday, with Jordan Binnington slated to start against Colorado. CBS Sports’ Hofer update
How Hofer and the Blues did in Dallas
Hofer made 25 saves as St. Louis beat Dallas 4-0 at American Airlines Center. It was his first season-opening start in the NHL and the ninth shutout of his NHL career, according to the NHL game recap.
- Mason McTavish scored at 1:34 of the first period, putting in a rebound in his Blues debut.
- Dalibor Dvorsky made it 2-0 at 13:05 of the second period.
- Adam Jiricek appeared to score a power-play goal early in the third, but Dallas successfully challenged the play for offside and the goal was overturned.
- Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter scored empty-net goals 15 seconds apart late in the third.
- Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger made 20 saves.
Hofer’s season before the opener
The CBS Sports/RotoWire update listed Hofer’s 2025-26 regular-season record as 24-13-5, with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 46 appearances. Those are the figures reported by CBS Sports; a separate Edgehalla stats page displays a .910 save percentage, so the two published figures should not be treated as identical. Edgehalla’s Hofer stats

What the postgame comments add
After the shutout, Hofer said Dallas’ offense was dynamic but that St. Louis stayed tight defensively and did not give the Stars much. Coach Jim Montgomery praised Hofer’s focus and maturity, saying he was “blossoming into a potential top-10 goalie in the League.” These were postgame comments, not part of the original pregame update.
