As of Friday, October 2, 2026, Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson had not practiced that week because of an ankle injury and was reported out for Minnesota’s Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins. The Friday practice report described a continued absence, not a new diagnosis.
What happened to Justin Jefferson?
Jefferson injured his ankle during Minnesota’s September 27 game against Tampa Bay and did not return, according to CBS Sports’ player update. The recap says he had two catches for 32 yards before leaving. The available reports do not establish a specific diagnosis, injury severity, or detailed recovery plan.
Subsequent reporting said coach Kevin O’Connell characterized Jefferson as day-to-day and that he would not practice Wednesday. Jefferson also missed Thursday’s practice. CBS Sports reported Friday that he remained absent and had not practiced during the week.
Is Justin Jefferson playing against the Dolphins?
No. A same-day player-news update reported that Jefferson was ruled out for the Vikings’ Week 4 game against Miami. That is the reported status as of October 2, 2026; injury designations can change with later updates.

Who could take on more receiving work?
The Friday report identified Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings, and Tai Felton as players who could handle much of Minnesota’s wide-receiver work if Jefferson missed the game. This is an expectation, not a confirmed snap or target allocation.
When might Jefferson return?
RotoWire listed October 11 as an estimated return date. That date is an estimate only; it does not confirm that Jefferson will be available for Minnesota’s next game. The reporting available as of October 2 did not provide a confirmed return-to-play timeline.
