Yes—Incogni is a legitimate paid service, and independent research found it removed or could not find a larger share of records than the other three data-removal services tested. In a 2025 study, Incogni averaged 76.6% of participants’ records in the combined “removed / not found” category after 30 days. That is evidence the service can help, not a promise that it will remove every record—or keep every record gone.
Incogni automates opt-out and deletion requests to data brokers and people-search sites on your behalf. It does not erase your information from the whole internet. Whether it is worth paying for depends on how much time you want to save, the plan’s renewal price, and whether the study’s limited results match your expectations.
Is Incogni legit?
Incogni is a real subscription service that submits data-removal requests after you provide identifying information and authorize it to act for you. It shows request progress in a dashboard and says it makes recurring requests during an annual subscription. Those are useful signs of an operating service, but “legit” does not mean that every broker will comply or that all copies of your information will disappear.
Incogni says it shares personal data with brokers to process removal requests and retains customer data for up to 12 months after cancellation, according to PCWorld’s account of the service and a third-party audit. Does Incogni actually work?
There is independent evidence that it can make a practical difference, with important limits. He et al.’s 2025 study recruited 80 current US residents to test four services, with 71 participants providing valid study data overall. Twenty participants were recruited for each service, and researchers evaluated results after 30 days. Incogni averaged 76.6% of records per participant in the combined “removed / not found” category—the highest result among the four services. The average across all four was 48.2%. That 76.6% figure is not a universal success rate or a prediction for an individual customer. The study was relatively small, limited to US residents and a 30-day observation period, and services did not necessarily have identical broker availability. The authors also report variation in outcomes between users.
The study’s combined result needs careful interpretation: “Removed / Not found” includes records that were removed and records where the participant’s personal information was not found. A request still awaiting a broker’s response was “In progress”; inability to send a request or a long non-response counted as “Failed.” A dashboard status therefore is not always proof that a broker deleted a record. The paper explains its scope this way: “Therefore, we finally evaluate the efficacy of the PII removal services in deleting the records they have previously identified.”
How Incogni works
- Provide identifying details. Incogni says it asks for your name, email address and home address. Adding current or past addresses and phone numbers can help it match records.
- Authorize requests. You sign an online authorization form allowing Incogni to make removal demands on your behalf.
- Incogni sends and tracks requests. The service says it automates requests and displays their progress in a dashboard and privacy reports. Its service description says it sends recurring requests with an annual subscription. Incogni: How it works
Public people-search pages and private broker databases are handled differently. Incogni’s pricing FAQ says it scans public people-search sites for matches. It says private databases cannot be scanned in the same way; instead, it uses signals such as region to identify brokers that may hold data, then periodically sends opt-out requests. How long does Incogni take to remove information?
There is no single completion time. Incogni says broker response times range from hours to weeks, and some requests on monthly plans may take more than 30 days. A request still marked in progress is not the same as a completed removal, and the study’s 30-day snapshot does not establish how long every request takes in practice.
Annual plans are structured for ongoing monitoring and resubmission, rather than a one-time sweep. That can matter when a broker responds slowly or information reappears, but it does not guarantee permanent removal. Incogni pricing FAQ

Incogni’s official pricing page displayed the following annual offers on October 3, 2026. The introductory first-year charge is different from the subsequent annual billing amount. Is Incogni worth it?
Incogni is most useful if you want a service to handle repeated broker requests rather than find and submit them yourself. The study offers a meaningful positive signal, but it cannot tell you exactly how many of your own records Incogni will find or remove. Consider these points before subscribing:
- Compare renewal cost, not just the promotion. The displayed first-year price is lower than the stated subsequent annual billing.
- Choose based on the feature you need. Standard is the basic automated option; Unlimited adds custom requests, while Family plans cover up to five members.
- Allow time for broker responses. Some monthly-plan requests may take more than 30 days, while annual plans are designed for ongoing requests.
- Think about the information you must provide. Matching can be improved with additional addresses and phone numbers, but you are entrusting identifying information to the service.
- Keep the evidence in perspective. The 76.6% result is from a small, US-only, 30-day study and combines records removed with records not found.
If you compare Incogni with another service, distinguish the number of sites covered from records actually found and removed. Also compare whether work is automated or human-assisted, recurring monitoring, custom requests, household coverage, status reporting, independent outcome evidence, personal information requirements, retention terms, renewal pricing and regional availability. What happens to your information if you cancel?
PCWorld reports that Incogni retains customer data for up to 12 months after cancellation.
