Borderless Gaming says its separately downloadable DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect can run through the app’s BGFX pipeline on a wider range of GPUs, while its own BGFG frame generator is a separate feature. Neither announcement establishes that NVIDIA’s native, game-integrated DLSS 5 works on AMD or Intel graphics cards. The developer has not published a verified list of compatible non-NVIDIA models or controlled cross-GPU benchmark results.

What Borderless Gaming is offering

There are two different features behind the headline: a DLSS 5-style neural-rendering effect and BGFG, Borderless Gaming’s own frame-generation tool. They are not interchangeable, and the developer announced them separately.

Feature What it does What is established
DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect Applies a neural-rendering effect through Borderless Gaming’s BGFX pipeline. The developer says it runs the model directly through BGFX, rather than forwarding requests to NVIDIA DLLs. It is separately downloaded, not installed or running in the background by default. Borderless Gaming’s September 29, 2026 Steam announcement
BGFG Borderless Gaming’s general-purpose frame generator, presented for games, anime and live-action content. The developer says it requires no game modifications and was trained on tens of thousands of hours of gameplay. Those are developer claims, not independently verified performance findings. Borderless Gaming’s September 22, 2026 Steam announcement

Is this NVIDIA’s native DLSS 5?

No. The Borderless Gaming implementation should be described as a DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect or DLSS 5-style effect through Borderless Gaming—not as native DLSS support inside games. The developer says its model runs through BGFX, without replacing game DLLs, modifying game files or requiring a game-specific mod. TechRadar likewise cautions that the effect is not the same as native DLSS 5 support. TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report

NVIDIA describes its own DLSS 5 as 3D-guided neural rendering that uses a game-engine frame and data such as motion vectors to generate lighting and material detail. NVIDIA says its compact model runs locally on a single GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU at up to 4K. Those specifications describe NVIDIA’s implementation; they do not establish equivalent hardware support or image quality for Borderless Gaming’s effect. Does it work on AMD or Intel GPUs?

The developer says it has quantized the model and removed bottlenecks so the effect can run on a wider range of GPUs. That is a broad compatibility claim, not a model-by-model support list. The reviewed announcements do not verify a specific AMD Radeon or Intel Arc card, nor do they provide controlled tests comparing vendors.

So a non-NVIDIA GPU may be within the developer’s intended support range, but buyers should not infer compatibility for a particular card from the announcement alone. NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series requirement for its own DLSS 5 implementation should also not be confused with the separate Borderless Gaming pipeline.

What performance has been reported?

Borderless Gaming’s developer gives an example of “around 30 FPS” on an RTX 3090, with results depending on the game and settings. This is a developer-provided example, not an independent benchmark or a promise of performance on AMD or Intel cards. The reviewed sources do not report a controlled multi-GPU test, nor do they establish a general frame-rate gain.

When evaluating either feature, separate the game’s original frame rate from generated frames. Frame generation can affect perceived smoothness, but a generated-frame count alone does not show input latency, frame pacing or image quality. A useful comparison should use the same game, resolution, graphics settings, driver and Borderless Gaming/effect version, and record GPU and graphics API. It should also check for ghosting, UI smearing and other artifacts. No such cross-vendor results are established in the available announcements.

How to get the effect

  1. Install Borderless Gaming from Steam. Steam lists the app as paid software by AndrewMD5; the current price is subject to change.
  2. Separately download the DLSS5-NR effect. It is not bundled as an automatically active effect with the app, according to TechRadar’s report and the developer announcement.
  3. Check the app and effect’s current compatibility information before relying on a specific GPU. The announcements do not name verified AMD or Intel models.
  4. Test in the game and settings you intend to use, watching both visual artifacts and responsiveness rather than judging only by a displayed FPS figure.

Borderless Gaming also lists borderless fullscreen, BGFX visual effects and upscaling, and BGProxy compatibility features. Those are separate functions of the utility, not evidence that its DLSS 5-style effect is built into supported games. Steam product listing

What the announcement does—and does not—mean

  • It does mean: Borderless Gaming says its own BGFX pipeline can run a separately downloaded DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect and that it is intended for a wider range of GPUs.
  • It does not mean: NVIDIA’s native DLSS 5 is available in games on AMD or Intel hardware, or that every GPU can run this third-party effect.
  • It does not prove: image-quality parity with NVIDIA’s implementation, a particular non-NVIDIA card’s compatibility, or a predictable performance uplift. Those claims would require product-specific documentation or independent testing.
