At the September 2026 prospects showcase, Braeden Cootes played on a line with Ilya Safonov and Bennett Schimek. That showcase combination is not confirmation of Cootes’s line for Abbotsford’s regular-season opener on October 2.
Who played alongside Cootes?
A September 13 Vancouver Canucks report identified Cootes, Safonov and Schimek as Abbotsford’s “top line” at the prospects showcase. Head coach Ryan Papaioannou said the trio stood out for getting inside and making plays. Vancouver Canucks’ showcase report
Cootes also praised playing with Safonov, pointing to the winger’s puck protection and passing in that same report.
Is that Abbotsford’s line for the October 2 opener?
That is not confirmed by the available official reports. Abbotsford’s October 2 opening-roster announcement says Cootes made the 2026–27 roster and that the regular-season opener was at Calgary that night; it does not identify his linemates for the game.
