It is a broad framing for the week—not a claim that launch costs or launch rates have changed by a particular amount.
What is World Space Week?
World Space Week is an annual global observance of space science and technology. The United Nations says General Assembly resolution 54/68, adopted on December 6, 1999, proclaimed the week to celebrate space science and technology’s contributions to improving the human condition. Its purposes include inspiring students and a future workforce, educating the public about space activities, showing public support for space programs, and encouraging international cooperation in space education and outreach. UN World Space Week overview
The World Space Week Association selects each year’s theme in close coordination with the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs. The theme offers participants broad guidance and a shared global focus; it does not prescribe a single event format.
What “Rocket Revolution” means
For 2026, “Rocket Revolution” draws attention to changes in who participates in reaching space, how launch activity may develop, and what space is used for. The theme foregrounds a wider set of launch actors—including commercial providers, university teams, startups and new national space programs—as well as reusable rockets. These are themes for discussion and education, not quantified findings about launch costs, launch frequency or commercial market outcomes.

- Teach a STEM lesson: Use a class or group session to introduce rockets, space science or the history and future of spaceflight.
- Hold a model or DIY rocket activity: A physical launch is one option, provided the activity is appropriate for the participants and the location.
- Organize stargazing: A guided or informal night-sky event can connect participants with space without building or launching anything.
- Host a space-movie marathon: Pair films with a discussion or other educational activity if that suits the audience.
- Run a community event: A local gathering can focus on space in a format that works for the people taking part.
Choose an activity by considering the audience’s age, available supervision, whether a suitable launch location exists, materials, time and complexity, and whether a physical launch is needed. The event guidance does not rank these ideas or identify one best option; lessons, films, stargazing and other non-launch activities are valid ways to participate.
