In Dennis Sellers’s October 1, 2026 review, he liked its picture and travel convenience, but found the cords noticeable and preferred it on the go over using it as his main office monitor. How many cables you need depends on your laptop’s ports.
What the Duex Max DS offers
The Duex Max DS is the 14.1-inch model in Mobile Pixels’ Duex DS family; the related Duex Plus DS has a 13.3-inch display. According to Mobile Pixels’ specifications, the Max DS has a 1920 × 1080 LCD, 16:9 aspect ratio, adjustable brightness up to 300 nits, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and weighs 1.8 pounds. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements. The model’s SKU is 101-1007P06. Mobile Pixels’ Duex DS Series specifications
The screen has one USB-C port and one mini-HDMI port. Mobile Pixels lists compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Nintendo Switch, and Android/Samsung DeX. Compatibility alone does not guarantee a one-cable connection: your host device’s ports determine how video and power get to the display.
Check your laptop’s ports before buying
A single USB-C cable can carry both video and power only when the laptop’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode. If it does, connect the display to that port with USB-C. If the port does not provide video, HDMI can carry the picture while USB-C supplies power. The manual also illustrates an HDMI video connection with USB-A power for a laptop that has those ports. - Perfect for 14" and Larger Laptops: Plug in, Power on. With a DisplayPort enabled USB-C port, the DUEX Max dual laptop monitor allows for high-speed video transmission and a plug-and-play experience packed into a single cable.
- DUEX Max features a larger 14.1'' full-HD display that easily slides out to either side of your laptop. You’ll enjoy the same 1080p resolution but with an 85% screen-to-body ratio so everything you see is crisp and clear.
- At just 1.8 pounds, DUEX Max is 23% lighter and gives you true mobility with the most durable materials. It’s also energy-efficient and specially designed to reduce battery drain from your laptop. Plus, we created DUEX Max with ABS and aluminum, so it can withstand the wear and tear that comes with transporting your laptop around.
- Easily pair your DUEX Max with any laptop or device, including a Nintendo Switch and select Android phones, via USB-C or USB-A connection.
- DUEX Max still features auto rotation and can be used in its intended landscape mode, portrait mode, presentation mode, eye care mode or kickstand mode—perfect for any scenario.
- USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode: USB-C-to-USB-C for video and power.
- HDMI available, but USB-C video unavailable: HDMI-to-mini-HDMI for video, plus USB-C for power.
- USB-A and HDMI available: HDMI-to-mini-HDMI for video and USB-A power, as shown in the manual.
That is why the cable caveat varies by setup. Sellers described using an HDMI-to-mini-HDMI cable and noted the cords in his review, while the manufacturer documents a one-cable USB-C option for compatible laptops. Check both video support and the available power connection on your specific device; do not assume that any USB-C port carries a display signal.
Attaching it or using it beside the laptop
The manufacturer lists four laptop magnets, a USB-C cable with USB-A adapter, a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable, and a user guide in the box. The manual shows adhesive-backed magnetic plates attached to the laptop’s back, after which the screen can slide and rotate into position. It also illustrates portrait orientation and flipping the display for presentation use. Duex Max DS manual

Attaching the screen keeps it close to the laptop, but it is not the only placement option. Mobile Pixels names an Origami Kickstand as a separately purchasable accessory for using the monitor beside the laptop. Sellers said he found it easier to use the cover as a stand beside his computer; that is his described approach, distinct from the separately sold official stand. What the travel review says—and what it does not establish
Dennis Sellers, editor and publisher of Apple World Today, says he used the display for several weeks. He reported that the picture looked great, that the image was responsive when he used it with a Nintendo Switch, and that setup took less than a minute in his use. He also said he could put it in a backpack with the cover. These are one reviewer’s impressions, not a lab test or a guarantee of setup time for every laptop.
