Yes. Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) for the regular PlayStation 5 on October 1, 2026. It is a game-level upscaling option: Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first titles receiving patches to add it, not a feature that automatically changes every PS5 game.

What is QSSR on PS5?

Quick Spectral Super Resolution is Sony’s AI-upscaling technology for the regular PS5. Sony describes it as “a new performance tier of AI upscaling,” developed from Project Amethyst, its graphics collaboration with AMD. The company says QSSR uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and an implementation hand-tuned for PS5 performance, with the goal of improving image detail and stability. Sony’s announcement does not include independent image comparisons or measured performance results.

Which PS5 games support QSSR?

Sony named two initial games in its October 1, 2026 announcement. It said both were “being patched today” to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5.

Marvel’s Wolverine Sony said a patch was being released October 1, 2026, adding QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Source
Ghost of Yōtei Sony said a patch was being released October 1, 2026, adding QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Source

These titles are the first named examples, not a complete compatibility list. Sony said it plans to offer the QSSR library broadly to PlayStation developers and expects more games to use it, but the announcement gave no adoption schedule or full list of supported titles.

How players encounter the option

The announcement describes QSSR as an option provided by participating games. It does not say that every game receives upscaling automatically, identify a system-wide console toggle, or provide detailed instructions for selecting QSSR. Sony also did not specify in this announcement whether a system-software update is required.

Is QSSR the same as PS5 Pro’s PSSR?

No. Sony distinguishes QSSR, its performance-tier AI upscaling for the regular PS5, from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), the technology it offers on PS5 Pro. Sony calls PSSR the “gold standard” on PS5 Pro and says QSSR provides improvements to detail and stability on PS5. The PS5 Pro launch announcement described PSSR as AI-driven upscaling using machine-learning technology. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement does not establish a direct QSSR-versus-PSSR test.

What developers say QSSR changes

Developers at the two studios behind the first announced games described the visual improvements they expect to see in their own titles. These are attributed developer statements, not independent test results.

Do you need a PS5 Pro for AI upscaling?

No. Sony announced QSSR for the regular PS5 and named two games adding it on that console. PS5 Pro has the separate PSSR technology. Which option you can use depends on the console and whether a particular game implements it; the announcement does not establish universal support across PS5 games.
