DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations adds new content to the game’s Ripatorium arena challenge, but it did not introduce Endless mode. The mode was already available in the base game; the expansion adds three Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded weapons for owners who complete its story.

What is new about the Ripatorium in Revelations?

Bethesda describes Ripatorium 3.0 as a free update for DOOM: The Dark Ages players. It brings deeper customization, improved passcode generation, and personal presets to the customizable arena challenge mode. Revelations owners who finish the expansion’s story also get three additional Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons. These are distinct benefits: the customization update is free, while the extra arena content is tied to owning Revelations and completing its story. Bethesda’s announcement details the split.

Was Endless mode already in the base game?

Yes. Bethesda’s August 7, 2025 Update 2 release notes described the Ripatorium as an arena mode with three arenas. Its Encounter Manager let players choose demon types and quantities, set a time limit, or enable Endless mode; an enemy respawn counter offered another way to shape encounters. The Endless setting therefore predates the July 7, 2026 Revelations launch. The Update 2 notes establish that timeline.

Bethesda’s September 4, 2025 hotfix notes also documented a crash in Ripatorium Endless mode on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 during sessions lasting more than eight continuous hours. That is further confirmation the mode existed in 2025, not a new Revelations feature. The hotfix notes describe that specific issue.

What else does Revelations include?

Revelations is a campaign expansion, not just an arena add-on. Bethesda’s announcement says it adds new levels, deeper puzzles, new demons, mysteries, and the Chain Spear, a weapon designed to expand combat options with power and mobility. The Chain Spear can replace the shield. Xbox Wire’s July 1, 2026 preview describes its chain pulling the Slayer toward enemies or through the environment, as well as allowing players to orbit airborne enemies while firing. Game Director and id Software Studio Co-Director Hugo Martin said the movement aim was: “We’re going to make the tanky Dark Ages Slayer fly.” Xbox Wire’s preview includes more detail.

Story and endgame

Xbox Wire estimated 10–12 hours to complete Revelations and characterized its content as roughly 60% story campaign and 40% endgame. Those are preview estimates, not guaranteed completion times. The preview describes the later endgame as replaying campaign levels with added challenges and puzzles, followed by a major boss and master arenas; it also says the existing difficulty sliders remain available.

Is Revelations worth it if you mainly want solo arena combat?

If you want to try custom arena encounters, the free Ripatorium 3.0 update is the relevant change; Endless mode itself is not a reason to buy Revelations. The expansion’s additional value for arena-focused players is the three maps, extra demons, and upgraded weapons unlocked after its story. Players who also want a new campaign, puzzles, and the Chain Spear’s movement and combat options have more reasons to consider the add-on.
