Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds On on October 1, 2026: its first clip-style earbuds in the Galaxy Buds line. They sit around the ear and leave the ear canal open. Samsung’s first stated launch is South Korea on October 27, 2026, in black for KRW 299,000; it has not announced dates or prices for other markets.
What are the Galaxy Buds On?
Galaxy Buds On are open-ear, clip-on wireless earbuds. Rather than sealing the ear canal, each bud rests around the ear, a form factor intended for listening while remaining more aware of nearby activity. That can suit situations where hearing some surroundings matters, but it does not make the earbuds hearing protection or guarantee awareness in every environment.
Samsung describes the Buds On as the first clip-style product in its Galaxy Buds line. Its October 1 announcement presents the design for everyday listening and outdoor use. Samsung Newsroom Korea is the primary source for the product details.
What features has Samsung announced?
The specifications and benefits below are Samsung’s claims, not independent test results. The announcement does not establish how the earbuds perform in real-world comparisons.

| Area | What Samsung says |
|---|---|
| Fit and stability | A band and wider contact area are designed to spread pressure and keep the earbuds attached during movement. Samsung says it used ear-shape analysis and simulations to position the speaker and battery; this is not independent evidence of comfort or exercise stability. |
| Sound and leakage | TwinBoost speakers are intended to improve low frequencies. Automatic volume adjustment responds to the environment, while Audio Leakage Reduction is designed to reduce sound escaping outward. |
| Battery and audio platform | Samsung specifies the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform and a Class-D amplifier, and claims up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on one charge. The announcement does not state total listening time including the case. |
| Calls | Three microphones, a voice pickup unit sensor that detects vibration associated with speech, and machine-learning processing are intended to help distinguish the wearer’s voice from background noise. |
| Controls and connection | Tapping the rear of an earbud controls key playback and call functions. Samsung says opening the case permits connection to a Galaxy phone or tablet. Volume and equalizer settings are available through device settings and the quick panel without installing Galaxy Wearable. |
| Galaxy AI features | With a Galaxy AI-supporting phone or tablet, Samsung lists Gemini Live voice interaction, Quick Voice Memo, Bixby search of recordings, and head gestures for calls, alarms, and message notifications. |
Important limits on the sound claims
Samsung explicitly warns that sound may still leak. The amount can vary with listening volume, ear shape, surrounding noise, and fit, so Audio Leakage Reduction should not be read as sound isolation or a privacy guarantee.
Quick Voice Memo has additional requirements: Samsung says it needs a Galaxy AI-compatible device, Samsung Voice Recorder, and Bixby, and its long-press function must be configured. The announcement does not establish that every feature works with every phone or tablet.

When do Galaxy Buds On go on sale, and what do they cost?
As of October 3, 2026, the product had been announced but was not yet on sale. Samsung plans to launch a black, single-model version in South Korea on October 27, 2026, for KRW 299,000. Samsung says other global markets will follow sequentially, but has not named additional markets, dates, colors, or prices. Android Central’s October 1 report likewise noted that regional pricing and availability had not been announced.
For buyers outside South Korea, the announced Korean price is not a confirmed local price, and there is no stated global release date to plan around. Check Samsung’s local store for availability after the Korean launch rather than assuming the product is already orderable in your region.

Why is Samsung entering the clip-on earbud market?
The launch comes as open wireless stereo (OWS) earbuds expand within the broader wireless-earbud category. Omdia’s September 17, 2026 market release reports that OWS shipments grew in the second quarter even as conventional true wireless stereo shipments declined. The figures describe shipments, not retail sales or consumer preferences.
| Omdia measure | 2Q 2026 figure |
|---|---|
| Total true wireless stereo shipments | 82.1 million units, down 0.7% year over year. |
| Conventional TWS shipments | Down 2% year over year. |
| Open wireless stereo shipments | 11.1 million units, up 12% year over year. |
| OWS share of total TWS shipments | 13.5%, compared with 12.0% one year earlier. |
| Clip-on share of OWS shipments | 61%; ear-hook designs accounted for 39%. |
| OWS shipments below US$50 | Segment grew 323% year over year. |
| US$100–199 OWS shipments | Segment grew 253% year over year. |
| OWS annual shipments | Omdia forecast growth from 43.9 million units in 2026 to 90.5 million by 2030; this is a forecast, not an observed result. |
The 61% clip-on figure is a share of OWS shipments in that quarter, not a share of all earbuds or proof that most listeners prefer clips. Omdia attributed the broader TWS decline largely to mainland China shipments falling 9.5%, amid fading consumer-electronics stimulus and replacement demand brought forward into 2025; growth in emerging markets partly offset declines in China, the United States, and India. These are Omdia’s estimates and explanation, not Samsung’s stated reason for launching the Buds On. Omdia’s release also identifies comfort, audio quality, call quality, and active noise cancellation performance as user priorities—criteria worth considering when comparing open-ear products.

What should buyers compare with other open-ear earbuds?
There is not enough independent test evidence in the announcement and market reporting to declare the Galaxy Buds On better than competing designs. A practical comparison should focus on:
