My Fuji and Happiness Code is a Japanese family drama about a university student, Takuma, and his grandmother, Fumiko, finding new direction after the death of Ishi, the grandfather who brought them together through a mystery in his notebook. Fumiko returns to the education she once hoped to pursue, while Takuma wrestles with uncertainty about his own future.

What is My Fuji and Happiness Code about?

GAGA lists the film as a 100-minute drama released in Japan on October 24, 2025. Its Japanese title is 富士山と、コーヒーと、しあわせの数式, romanized on the distributor’s listing as Fujisan to coffee to shiawase no sushiki. GAGA’s film listing

After Ishi dies, university student Takuma moves in with Fumiko. In Ishi’s study, they discover a university admission guide he had left for her as a surprise. Fumiko decides to pursue the studies she had dreamed about when she was younger. As she settles into student life, Takuma remains unsure what he wants from his own future.

The two also investigate an unusual equation in Ishi’s notebook. He loved Mount Fuji and painted it, and the equation becomes an emotional mystery connecting the family to his care and intentions. The official synopsis presents it as part of the story—not as a verified formula for happiness.

Who made the film?

Kenji Nakanishi directed the film, with Issei Mamehara of JO1 and Yoshie Ichige among the principal cast. The official film site also credits Kyōzō Nagatsuka in the cast and Yukiko Manabe as screenwriter. GAGA’s film listing · Official film site

Is it based on a true story?

The official film site cites Ishiko Shimada’s autobiography, 信用はデパートで売っていない 教え子とともに歩んだ女性の物語, as the source concept. Shimada is described there as having established a school for women’s education and as the founder associated with Bunkyo Gakuin. Bunkyo Gakuin describes the movie as an original film inspired by Shimada’s approach to life and built around the idea that education makes life enjoyable.

That connection does not establish that the film directly adapts the autobiography’s events or is a literal biopic. It is more accurate to call it an original family drama inspired by Shimada’s life and educational outlook. Official film site · Bunkyo Gakuin centennial page
