To make a 24/7 exam revision stream on YouTube, prepare a loop of original or properly licensed revision material, connect it to YouTube Live Control Room with an encoder or cloud service, test the stream, then monitor it and plan for failures. A local encoder gives you direct control but needs a computer and connection that can stay running; a cloud service can keep a prerecorded loop running without your computer staying on.

Before you start: YouTube eligibility and revision material

Enable live streaming early

Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you intend to launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.

Prepare a loop that is useful to study with

Arrange the material in a deliberate sequence: label subjects and topics clearly, use readable lesson cards, and include timestamps or chapter cues where they help viewers find a section. Keep any audio from competing with studying. These are editorial choices, not platform requirements, but they make a long-running revision stream easier to use.

Use only video, graphics, recordings, and music you created or are authorized to use. Educational purpose alone does not grant permission. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to hold the necessary rights for live content, including music rights. Keep evidence that your permissions cover the platform, territory, duration, and intended use. See YouTube’s Terms of Service.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach What stays under your control What must keep working Best fit
Local encoder on a computer Encoder settings, playlist or playback, and stream start and stop The computer, encoder, internet connection, and someone able to respond to failures Creators who want hands-on control and can maintain the setup
Cloud service for prerecorded loops The uploaded videos, playlist, and YouTube stream setup The service and YouTube connection; check the provider’s current recovery, recording, and pricing details Creators who do not want a personal computer running continuously

YouTube lists cloud-based 24/7 tools, including Gyre, but that listing does not establish current prices, reliability, features, or suitability. Check a provider’s own current terms before choosing it. For a local setup, OBS is among the encoder options documented by YouTube. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to begin, and its guidance does not establish minimum CPU, memory, or graphics requirements for a static revision stream.

Set up a local encoder stream

  1. Verify the channel and enable live streaming. Complete the channel verification and live-stream activation steps in YouTube. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
  2. Create the event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room, and create or schedule the stream. Choose private or unlisted visibility for a test; choose the intended audience and visibility before public launch.
  3. Copy the stream URL and key. In Live Control Room, open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update your encoder.
  4. Configure video and connection settings. Choose a resolution and frame rate suited to your revision visuals and the upload connection available to the computer. YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS guidance specifies H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p30, its table lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. Those are platform settings, not a guarantee that your connection or encoder will be stable at that rate. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for the relevant codec and resolution.
  5. Load the revision loop. Set your playback or playlist source in the encoder, confirm the intended order, and check that the picture and audio behave as expected at the chosen output settings.
  6. Run a representative test. Start the encoder while the event is private or unlisted. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, inspect picture, sound, and stream health, and check the watch page on both mobile and desktop.
  7. Launch and monitor. For a scheduled event, YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. Confirm the preview and event details, then start the live stream using the controls in Live Control Room. Keep a plan for checking stream health and responding if the encoder, computer, connection, or YouTube ingest fails. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Plan for long-run interruptions and replays

A local 24/7 stream depends on the computer, encoder, and internet connection continuing to work. Arrange monitoring and a recovery procedure: know who will notice an interruption, how to restart the encoder, and how to confirm that the event is live again. No setup guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.

YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single 24-hour broadcast will receive a complete replay. If preserving the full revision session matters, make a separate recording or divide the content into shorter broadcasts, and confirm the current archive behavior in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Copyright and monetization considerations

Rights apply to every element

Review the rights for lesson slides, textbook excerpts, music, and any third-party footage or recordings. A license that covers classroom use may not cover a public online stream, a particular territory, or ongoing availability. Use material with permissions that fit this use, and retain the relevant license or authorization records.

Revenue is conditional

Live-stream monetization depends on channel and feature eligibility as well as YouTube policy. YouTube says Partner Program creators can monetize live streams, while available ads and fan-funding features depend on eligibility and the controls available to the channel. A continuous stream is not a guarantee of monetization or any particular earnings. Check your current status and controls in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • Live streaming is unavailable: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If you have only just enabled streaming, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
  • Live Control Room receives no signal: Confirm the encoder is running and that its server URL and stream key match the current event. If a key was exposed or replaced, copy the current one into the encoder.
  • The preview stutters or drops: Check stream health and whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. Use a rate the connection can reliably support; lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if needed, then test again.
  • The stream looks poor or has unstable playback: Check that the encoder is using the intended resolution and frame rate, H.264, CBR, and the recommended two-second keyframe interval. Compare the bitrate with YouTube’s settings for that codec and resolution.
  • The broadcast stops after a local failure: Check the computer, encoder, and internet connection, restart the encoder if needed, and confirm the preview returns in Live Control Room. Assign someone to handle this rather than assuming a local setup will restart itself.
  • The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Use separate recordings or shorter broadcasts if a complete replay is important.
  • Content is muted, blocked, or challenged: Review the permissions for the specific audio or video at issue. Replace it with original or properly authorized material; educational intent does not resolve a rights problem.
