Both cases remain allegations, not findings of guilt.
What is Joshua Kerry accused of?
The CPS announced that Kerry faces one count of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts. The charge is under section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. The CPS said its Counter Terrorism Division authorised police to charge him following an investigation overseen by Counter Terrorism Policing. Police give the alleged activity period as 31 May 2024 to 8 July 2026. The charge announcements do not describe the specific acts alleged, the evidence, or a motive. They state that the charge includes alleged activity against Nigel Farage MP; further operational details have not been set out in those releases.
How is the terrorism charge distinct from the Widdecombe murder case?
Kerry was already charged with one offence of murder, the CPS said. Sky News reports that the alleged victim was former MP Ann Widdecombe and that the murder charge was brought on 20 July 2026. That is a separate charge from the terrorism-preparation count. The public announcements do not establish a connection between the two cases.

When is Kerry due in court?
The CPS and Counter Terrorism Policing said Kerry was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 7 October 2026. That date was scheduled in the announcements; they did not report a completed hearing.
What do authorities say about the case?
Frank Ferguson, Chief Crown Prosecutor of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said: “Having carefully reviewed the evidence we have made the decision to prosecute Joshua Kerry for engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts.” The CPS also said prosecutors found sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and would continue working with police as the investigation progressed.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, described the investigation as “hugely intensive and complex.” Those statements describe the charging decision and investigation; they are not proof of the allegations.

The CPS says a decision to charge is not a finding of guilt or criminal conduct. Only a court can make findings of fact. The terrorism-preparation charge and the murder charge must therefore be treated as allegations unless and until established in court. Because proceedings are active, the CPS has warned against reporting or commentary that could prejudice them.
