Argentina announced a citizenship-by-investment program on 2 October 2026, with applications expected to open during the fourth quarter of 2026. The announced choices for a principal applicant are a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or an USD 800,000 subscription to a program-specific public title. The announcement does not establish that applications are open now, nor does it disclose the title’s repayment, yield, maturity or liquidity terms.

What Argentina announced—and when applications can be filed

The Argentine government announced the new program on 2 October 2026. It said the program is expected to receive applications during Q4 2026. That is a prospective opening window, not confirmation that an application can already be submitted. The government’s announcement is available at Argentina.gob.ar.

The program is an investment-based naturalization route, not citizenship granted automatically in exchange for payment. Applicants are subject to screening, and the National Migration Directorate makes the final approval or rejection decision.

How much the announced routes cost

The Argentine government announced two options for a principal applicant. They differ in the form and stated amount of the payment:

Route Announced amount What is established
Contribution to the National Treasury USD 350,000 The government describes this contribution as non-refundable.
Subscription to a program-specific public title USD 800,000 The announcement identifies a public title created for the program, but does not state its maturity, yield, repayment terms, liquidity or other investor protections.

The USD 800,000 option should not be treated as a conventional redeemable bond based on the announcement alone. The detailed financial terms of the title have not been established in the cited official materials.

Additional amounts for eligible family members

The announcement says family members may apply when their relationship to the principal applicant is documented and they make the contribution applicable to their category. It names these categories and amounts:

Family category Announced contribution Condition stated by the government
Spouse USD 100,000 Relationship must be documented.
Child aged 18–25 USD 100,000 Must be unmarried and have no children; relationship must be documented.
Child under 18 USD 25,000 Relationship must be documented.

The government’s example is one principal applicant, a spouse and two minor children, for a total announced contribution of USD 500,000. The announcement does not establish that every relative qualifies or that the principal applicant’s payment covers family members.

What screening and approval involve

The October announcement says financial flows must pass through the formal financial system and comply with applicable anti-money-laundering, counter-terrorism-financing and transparency requirements. It identifies checks covering:

  • Identity and traceability of funds, including their lawful source.
  • Assets, financial profile and jurisdictional risk.
  • Criminal and reputational history.
  • Immigration history.

The Agency for Citizenship by Investment (APCI) evaluates the case and makes a recommendation. The National Migration Directorate then decides whether to approve or reject the request. A contribution or title subscription therefore does not guarantee citizenship.

How the new route fits Argentina’s citizenship law

Argentina’s updated Law 346 recognizes naturalization for foreigners who demonstrate a relevant investment, regardless of how long they have resided in the country. The Ministry of Economy determines which investments count as relevant, and APCI is responsible for designing, managing and controlling investment-citizenship programs. The current law is published at Argentina.gob.ar; the amendment framework is set out in Decree 366/2025.

This investment route is separate from ordinary naturalization. The updated law retains a route for adults who have lived continuously and legally in Argentina for two years. For that route, continuous residence means remaining in Argentina without leaving during the relevant period. The investment-based route does not require a specified duration of residence under the law, although the program announcement includes an immigration-history review.

What is still not established

The official announcement sets out headline amounts and screening areas, but it is not a complete application guide. The legal framework directs APCI to issue supplementary or clarifying rules. In the official sources cited here, the following program details are not established:

  • The complete application checklist, submission channel and fees.
  • The program-specific title’s maturity, yield, repayment, liquidity and investor protections.
  • Whether additional relatives beyond the named categories qualify and what contribution would apply to them.
  • The date applications will actually begin to be accepted; the government announced only an expected Q4 2026 operational window.

Under Decree 524/2025, APCI receives applications, assesses whether an investment meets the Ministry of Economy’s definition of relevant, gathers input from relevant public bodies and sends a reasoned recommendation to the National Migration Directorate. The decree gives the Directorate 30 business days to decide after receiving APCI’s report. That statutory decision period is not an end-to-end processing-time promise for an applicant; APCI’s assessment and other steps occur before the report reaches the Directorate.
