You can stream a playlist on YouTube Live around the clock by sending YouTube a continuous feed from an encoder. The playlist runs in the encoder or a cloud streaming service—not through a YouTube playlist toggle. Use a local computer if you want to manage the encoder yourself, or upload videos to a cloud service if you do not want a computer at home to stay on.

Choose where the playlist will run

Either approach sends a live feed to YouTube. The difference is where playback and encoding happen.

Approach Where it runs Playlist management What to plan for
Local encoder Your computer and internet connection Configure the encoder to play the playlist; the exact setup depends on the software you choose. The computer and network must remain available. Check stream status and playlist transitions.
Cloud playlist service Remote infrastructure Upload videos and arrange them in the service, if its workflow supports that. Check how the service handles playlist changes, monitoring and interruptions. A vendor’s reliability claims are not a YouTube guarantee.

YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. Looping Stream describes uploading files, arranging them into a playlist and broadcasting without keeping a personal computer online; those are the vendor’s claims about its service, not a platform guarantee. YouTube’s encoder setup guide · Looping Stream

Check that your channel can stream live

YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the user must be at least 16 years old to live stream. These are YouTube’s stated eligibility conditions, not an exhaustive list of every regional or channel-specific restriction. YouTube live-streaming eligibility

Set up a local playlist stream

  1. Prepare your playlist and encoder. Choose streaming software that can play your prerecorded files in sequence and keep the feed running. Add the videos in the order you want. The precise playlist and looping controls depend on the encoder; YouTube does not provide a universal playlist setting for this.
  2. Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create a stream or select one you already made. Open the Live Control Room’s stream settings.
  3. Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder’s server and stream-key fields. YouTube describes the key as a password and address for sending the feed. Keep it private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Manage live stream settings
  4. Check the start and stop behavior. Review the auto-start and auto-stop controls in Live Control Room. Depending on the settings you selected, starting or stopping the encoder may also start or stop the YouTube stream.
  5. Prefer RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. HLS ingestion is also documented for compatible encoders, but has protocol-specific requirements and higher latency than RTMP. For a typical playlist stream, use RTMPS where supported. YouTube encoder settings and ingestion protocols
  6. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the image and sound are correct before you go live. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring stream health and audio/video quality. YouTube encoder setup and monitoring
  7. Check the stream as it runs. Confirm that playback continues through playlist transitions and that the feed has not stopped, especially after changing the playlist. A continuous setup still needs an operator plan for monitoring; no encoder method is failure-proof.

Plan for YouTube archives and copyright checks

A 24/7 stream may not produce a complete archive

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not count on YouTube to save one complete replay of an uninterrupted all-day broadcast. Keep the original files independently if you need them, and plan any separate recording workflow around your archive needs. YouTube’s encoder setup guide

Use content you have the rights to stream

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the live image, interrupt the stream or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube says the channel must be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist for licensed material to avoid that problem. Check permissions for every video, soundtrack and other included material before broadcasting. YouTube copyright issues with live streams

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom What to check Next step
YouTube does not receive the feed Confirm the encoder has the correct stream URL and stream key, and that the channel is eligible to stream. Copy the connection details again from the selected stream’s Live Control Room settings. Keep the key private.
The encoder is sending video, but the YouTube preview is wrong or silent Check the encoder’s selected source, playlist playback and audio output. Correct the source or audio configuration, then verify both picture and sound in the preview before going live.
The YouTube stream starts or stops unexpectedly Review the auto-start and auto-stop controls in Live Control Room alongside the encoder’s start/stop behavior. Adjust the controls to match how you intend to operate the stream.
The playlist stops or does not advance Check the encoder’s playlist and looping configuration, or the cloud service’s playlist controls. Test a full transition before relying on the playlist for continuous playback; YouTube itself does not control the playlist.
The live image is interrupted during a video Consider a third-party-content match, including music or footage embedded in the file. Use material you are authorized to stream. For licensed content, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
The long stream has no complete replay Check how long the stream ran. YouTube says a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep the source recordings and make a separate recording plan if an archive is important.

Useful checks before leaving a stream running

  • Verify that the preview has the intended video and audible sound.
  • Confirm that the playlist order and looping behavior work through a transition.
  • Keep the stream key private and make sure the encoder uses the key for the intended stream.
  • Decide who or what will check stream health and respond if playback or the feed stops.
  • Keep original media if you need a replay, and confirm rights for all video and audio.
