Syspro Torque is presented as an AI platform that can do more than answer questions: it can work with ERP data, process documents and, when configured, post transactions. That makes the central question at its IMTS 2026 debut less about what an agent can generate and more about what it may do, which rules constrain it, who approves exceptions and how usage is budgeted.

ERP Today’s October 2, 2026 report characterized the most common booth question as “who approves what an AI agent does.” Its reported framing emphasized policy-derived rules, citations at the decision level and beginning with one rules-based workflow before expanding autonomy. Those are useful governance questions, not proof of product accuracy or business results.

What Torque is—and what its IMTS debut established

Syspro describes Torque as an industrial AI execution platform. Its official AI product page says the platform can query operational systems, process documents and post ERP transactions. In other words, Torque is positioned as an action-capable enterprise platform, not simply a conversational assistant. Syspro launched Torque on September 2, 2026, according to its news listing; that date does not establish that the service is available or deployed at every customer site.

ERP Today’s October 2 account followed Syspro’s presence at IMTS 2026 in Chicago. The article page was not accessible for direct review, so the event details here are limited to the publication’s indexed excerpt and reported takeaways: the approval question, rules drawn from manufacturers’ policy documents, decision-level citations and a staged approach that starts with a rules-based workflow. The quoted booth question is ERP Today’s characterization, not a statistically representative survey.

Syspro’s platform is distinct from its older AI Assistant offering. Torque is documented as a separate cloud platform with managed agents and workflows. A managed agent is configured for a role and scoped to business objects and data; a workflow is a repeatable sequence of defined steps and triggers. Depending on configuration, triggers can include a person starting it, a schedule, a watched-folder event, a webhook or another configured event.

How Torque connects to ERP and on-premises systems

In Syspro 8 2026 R2 documentation, Torque Cloud is hosted by Syspro in Microsoft Azure and accessed through a browser. A customer-managed Windows Torque Executor Service runs inside the customer’s network. It enables the hosted service to reach Syspro, Microsoft SQL Server and files without exposing those systems directly to the internet. Syspro recommends Windows Server 2022 and documents Windows Server 2019 or later as supported. Confirm the tenant’s region, current release prerequisites and deployment requirements with Syspro during onboarding.

The documentation says agents act within the operator’s existing Syspro access. That makes permissions and connection scope part of the control design: an agent’s practical reach depends on the accounts, business objects and data made available to it. It does not mean that every workflow has the same approval gates or that the cloud service can reach every on-premises resource by default.

How rules and approvals work

Rule proposals still need review

Syspro says users can upload policy, pricing or compliance documents and ask Torque to propose rules, or describe a rule in plain language. The Rules Agent selects a rule type and, for SQL rules, checks that the required table and columns are present. Users can confirm, edit or reject a proposal before saving it; some rules may be flagged for review when they cannot be fully verified. This is AI-assisted rule authoring with operator review, rather than a guarantee that a policy document will be interpreted correctly without oversight.

Syspro’s AI product page says, “Every action shows its reasoning, the rule applied, the data used, the why, before anything executes.” That is a vendor description of the intended experience, not independent verification. Buyers should assess whether the records and explanations provided for their own workflows are sufficient to review a decision, investigate an exception and reconstruct what happened.

Sales-order rules show a transaction gate

One documented example in Syspro 8 2026 R2 is the AI Sales Order Rules Engine. If configured, new sales orders enter D-Draft status, where the agent evaluates the configured rules and identifies blocking errors or non-blocking warnings.

  • Blocking error: The error must be corrected before the order can be released.
  • Warning: An operator can accept it with a reason and notes. The reason, notes, operator and timestamp are recorded.
  • Review: Supervisors can review orders and bulk-accept warning-only orders.
  • Before release: Draft orders do not commit inventory, credit exposure or planning demand.

This example illustrates a configurable gate that can stop a transaction before release and preserve an audit trail for accepted warnings. It does not establish that every Torque workflow uses the same statuses, review process or safeguards.

Other documented workflow examples

Syspro documentation also describes workflows for calculating and raising replenishment requisitions, presenting multiple requisitions for approval, and reading bank-statement PDFs, checking for duplicates and requiring human confirmation before posting cash-book deposits. These are product documentation examples; they should not be read as independently verified customer deployments.

What Torque costs—and what public material does not say

Syspro documentation names three subscription tiers—Starter, Professional and Enterprise—and says a tenant’s plan determines its monthly token allocation. Tokens are consumed by workflow executions, agent sessions and AI messages; complex tasks and longer conversations use more. Usage resets monthly, and administrators can configure threshold notifications.

The public material reviewed does not state dollar prices, token quantities for each tier, overage terms or a worked total-cost example. It therefore does not support a price estimate or a quantified return-on-investment claim. Syspro says Torque runs on enterprise AI models from Microsoft Azure and Anthropic, while its documentation says Syspro centrally selects and manages approved models. Model selection and availability can change; confirm the current arrangement and how usage is accounted for in the tenant’s agreement.

Before approving a pilot or contract, ask Syspro and the implementation team:

  • What token allocation applies to this tenant, and what happens if usage exceeds it?
  • How are model usage and workflow execution costs reflected in the bill or usage view?
  • Which usage dashboards and threshold alerts can administrators configure?
  • What internal effort is required to set up connections, validate rules, monitor exceptions and support the workflows?

How to evaluate a Torque pilot

ERP Today’s reported emphasis on beginning with one rules-based workflow is a sensible way to make autonomy governable. Pick a process with a clear boundary and success criteria before expanding it. Compare candidate workflows on the following dimensions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Consequence and reversibility: What happens if the agent makes the wrong decision, and can the result be undone?
  • Pre-commit controls: Can users preview, approve or deny an action before it posts or changes operational records?
  • Rule provenance: Can reviewers see where a rule came from, inspect edits and understand how it was applied?
  • Permissions and connections: Which ERP roles, data objects, SQL resources and files must be available, and can access be limited to what the workflow needs?
  • Audit and exceptions: What is recorded about the rule, source data, decision, operator, timestamp and exception handling?
  • Usage and deployment: Does expected volume fit the tenant’s allocation, and do the hosting region, Windows service and security requirements fit the organization?

Set measurable acceptance criteria for the pilot, including how exceptions and rejected actions will be handled, then review results before broadening the workflow’s scope or autonomy. The sources reviewed provide no independent Torque-specific accuracy, savings or productivity statistics. Syspro’s documentation also says it does not publish a single accuracy percentage, explaining that one figure would not be informative across different workflows and customer data.
