Dave Portnoy and Barstool Sports personalities are reportedly ending their appearances on FOX Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff. The explanation attributed to sources briefed on the decision is that it became difficult to sustain a blend of FOX’s traditional pregame format and Barstool’s more distinctive persona. Portnoy instead blamed Ohio State and coach Ryan Day, but that claim has not been independently substantiated. The reporting concerns Big Noon Kickoff appearances; it does not establish that every part of FOX and Barstool’s broader programming relationship has ended.
Why are Portnoy and Barstool leaving Big Noon Kickoff?
October 2–3, 2026 reports citing The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand said Portnoy and Barstool personalities would no longer appear on FOX’s college football pregame show. According to sources attributed to Marchand, there was no single “smoking gun”: the ongoing challenge of combining the show’s traditional presentation with Barstool’s persona had become unsustainable. That is a reported account from sources briefed on the decision, not a public explanation issued by FOX. Hindustan Times, October 3, 2026
Did Ryan Day or Ohio State get Portnoy removed?
Portnoy alleged on social media that Ohio State and Day complained to the Big Ten and threatened FOX until the network had “no choice.” He also criticized Day and said he did not blame FOX for the decision. Those statements are Portnoy’s accusation, not a verified account of what led FOX to end the appearances. USA TODAY Network via Yahoo Sports, October 3, 2026
FOX and Ohio State declined to comment on Portnoy’s latest allegation, according to Eleven Warriors’ account of the reporting. Their lack of comment neither confirms nor disproves his claim. The available reporting does not independently establish that Day or Ohio State caused the decision. Eleven Warriors, October 2, 2026

What did the original FOX-Barstool deal include?
FOX and Barstool announced a “wide-ranging collaboration” on July 17, 2025. The plan made Portnoy a regular contributor to Big Noon Kickoff and anticipated appearances by other Barstool personalities, including Dan “Big Cat” Katz. It also described a companion Barstool College Football Show at selected games, planned weekday programming on FS1, co-produced digital content, and Barstool contributions to college basketball coverage, including the College Basketball Crown. FOX Sports’ partnership announcement
FOX CEO and executive producer Eric Shanks said at the time that Barstool’s “unique voice and loyal fanbase” suited FOX’s multiplatform content strategy. That explained the original collaboration; it does not explain the later decision about Big Noon Kickoff.

Does this mean the entire FOX-Barstool partnership is over?
Not on the evidence currently reported. The departure news specifically concerns appearances on Big Noon Kickoff. The original announcement outlined several separate programming plans, and the reporting does not establish whether each of those elements continues, has changed, or has ended. It is more accurate to say the Big Noon Kickoff appearances are ending than to declare the entire FOX-Barstool relationship over.

In August 2025, Portnoy said he had been banned from Ohio Stadium during FOX’s season-opening broadcast. Ohio State disputed that characterization, saying FOX made the decision because he was not part of the “main desk”; Portnoy did appear during the outdoor portion of the broadcast. That earlier disagreement is background, not proof that Ohio State prompted the 2026 change. FOX Sports, August 26, 2025
