VGC’s 2 October 2026 podcast discusses reports of a possible Uncharted return, but neither the episode nor the sources reviewed confirm a new game. Naughty Dog’s latest cited update, published on 28 September, does not announce an Uncharted project. So “Is Uncharted 5 happening?” is still an open question—not an official announcement.
What the VGC podcast says about Uncharted
The VGC episode, titled “Uncharted 5 starring Cassie? We’re interested,” features Jordan Middler, Chris Scullion and Andy Robinson discussing the week’s gaming stories, including the reported Uncharted return. The episode page also mentions Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Gears of War E-Day; it is not exclusively about Uncharted. The podcast is discussion of a report, not evidence by itself that a game is in development. VGC’s episode page
Is Uncharted 5 happening?
There is no official confirmation in the sources reviewed as of 3 October 2026. Naughty Dog’s 28 September update says the studio has two The Last of Us projects in very early stages and that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will receive a full reveal in 2027. It does not mention or announce a new Uncharted game. The update’s reference to two projects applies to The Last of Us, not Uncharted. Naughty Dog’s update
That is a statement about what has been publicly confirmed in these sources, not proof that no unannounced project exists internally.

What the current Uncharted report claims
GamesRadar reported on 1 October 2026 that MP1st claimed an all-new Uncharted project is in the works. According to GamesRadar, the report names Shaun Escayg as its reported lead and says Nathan Drake is involved in some capacity, while leaving unclear whether he would be the protagonist. GamesRadar also reported that leaker NateTheHate identified a project he had previously referenced as a new Uncharted.
These are attributed, unconfirmed claims—not confirmation from Sony or Naughty Dog. The report does not establish the game’s release timing, main character, developer, or position in Naughty Dog’s schedule. GamesRadar’s report

Why fans are ready for another Uncharted
Uncharted’s appeal is tied to its character-led adventure: treasure hunts, globe-spanning action and the relationships among its explorers. The prospect of returning to that kind of story is exciting, but a sequel would also need to respect the ending of Uncharted 4, which Druckmann said in 2016 was intended to complete Nathan Drake’s story. That history helps explain why talk of a new game prompts questions about whose story it would tell—not just whether Nathan might appear.
The “Uncharted 5” and Cassie framing is a way to imagine possible directions, not a confirmed title or casting decision. If a new game is made, meaningful open questions include whether it follows Nathan, Cassie or another character; who develops it; and how it handles Uncharted 4’s ending.

What Naughty Dog’s earlier comments do—and don’t—tell us
In a 2025 Variety interview, Naughty Dog studio leader Neil Druckmann said the studio does not tend to plan too far ahead and chooses projects based on the team’s passions. He mentioned Uncharted among the studio’s intellectual property, but did not say it would be the next game. Variety interview
Earlier comments also leave room for possibilities without promising a sequel. GameSpot’s April 2026 roundup recounts Shaun Escayg’s 2022 “never say never” attitude and Druckmann’s view that an outside developer could potentially make a future Uncharted with Naughty Dog helping preserve the series’ essence. These remarks are historical context, not confirmation of the project in the current rumor. GameSpot’s roundup
