The October 2, 2026 announcement does not mean Campbell has already taken the global role: Cook will remain in his leadership positions through March 2027 while the transition takes place.
What changes in March 2027
WPP says Cook, who is currently VML Global CEO and CEO of WPP Creative, has decided to leave the company to pursue the next chapter of his career. He plans to remain in those roles through March 2027 and work with Campbell immediately on transferring global responsibilities. WPP has not disclosed Cook’s specific future plans.

Campbell is scheduled to become VML Global CEO in March 2027. He is also to continue as CEO of WPP Creative North America. WPP has not said that Campbell will take over Cook’s global WPP Creative role; it says further details about WPP Creative’s leadership structure will be shared later.
Who is Eric Campbell?
WPP says Campbell has been with VML for more than 25 years. Before his current North American leadership post, his roles included President of VML, Global President of VMLY&R, Global Chief Client Officer and CEO of VML North America. In January 2025, VML announced him as North American CEO, with responsibility for its North American offices while he continued as Global Chief Client Officer, reporting to Cook.

VML’s company biography says Campbell joined the agency in 1999 and joined its Executive Leadership Team in 2007. It also says he led the launch of VML Seattle in 2004 while working on the Microsoft business, later served as chief business officer, and earned a Bachelor of Science in graphic arts technology management from the University of Central Missouri. These are details supplied by VML.
Why the transition is happening
Cook described his departure as a difficult decision, saying that after “three decades of pouring everything I have into this agency and all of WPP, it is time to build something new.” WPP’s announcement does not specify what he intends to do next.

WPP CEO Cindy Rose thanked Cook for his contribution and for agreeing to support the transition through March 2027. She also described Campbell as central to VML’s success for more than 25 years and credited him with helping shape the company’s client relationships, operations and culture. Those are Rose’s assessments in WPP’s announcement, not independent rankings or measurements.
