ConnexPay says eligible virtual cards can now be added directly to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and used for tap-to-pay purchases at physical checkout. Recipients can use the wallet on their device without downloading a separate app, extending ConnexPay virtual cards beyond online and remote payments. The company has not published the eligibility rules or supported-device and country details.
What ConnexPay announced
In an announcement datelined October 1, 2026, ConnexPay said eligible virtual cards can be provisioned to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Once provisioned, a recipient can use the wallet for an in-person, contactless purchase where the card and wallet are accepted. The release does not provide a step-by-step provisioning workflow.
ConnexPay CEO Ben Peters described the change as extending virtual-card controls to in-person purchases: “Virtual cards have traditionally given businesses tremendous control over how payments are made, but their use has largely been limited to online and remote transactions,” and “By enabling virtual cards for mobile wallets, we’re extending that same control to in-person payments. A card that exists entirely in the digital world can now be used at the physical point of sale just like a physical card.” These statements reflect the company’s positioning, not independently measured results. Who might use wallet-enabled virtual cards
ConnexPay presents the feature for businesses that issue controlled virtual-card payments. Its examples include time-sensitive expenses during travel disruptions, paying at a hotel front desk, corporate travel and expense (T&E), and vendor purchases at a physical point of sale. These are proposed use cases; the announcement does not name customers using the feature.

For a business, the practical change is that a recipient may be able to use a virtual card in person through a mobile wallet rather than relying on an online checkout or remote payment flow. The business should confirm eligibility and implementation details with ConnexPay before designing a payment process around wallet provisioning.
What controls ConnexPay describes

The listed controls include transaction limits, merchant-category restrictions, and geographic controls. Those are platform capabilities described by ConnexPay; the wallet announcement does not specify which controls apply to every wallet-provisioned card or how they are configured for this use.

When a business might choose a physical card instead
The announcement also says ConnexPay has expanded issuing to Mastercard physical cards. ConnexPay says existing virtual-card customers can add physical cards without replacing or rebuilding their issuing programs. It describes spend controls, configurable limits, merchant-category restrictions, program-management tools, and rebate opportunities as remaining available. The company positions physical cards for cases where a physical credential is preferred or required; it does not publish a detailed feature-by-feature comparison with wallet-enabled virtual cards.

What businesses still need to confirm
The announcement names Apple Wallet and Google Wallet but does not publish a full eligibility matrix. In particular, it does not state card-network or issuer restrictions, supported devices or operating systems, eligible countries, merchant-acceptance caveats, authentication steps for provisioning, fees, rollout timing, adoption, or fraud outcomes. Businesses should not assume every ConnexPay card, recipient, device, merchant, or country is supported.

Market context and earlier precedent
ConnexPay’s October 1, 2026 announcement cites Juniper Research for a forecast that global virtual-card transaction value will rise from $5.2 trillion in 2025 to $17.4 trillion by 2029, a 235% increase. It also cites Worldpay’s Global Payments Report 2026 for the figure that digital wallets accounted for 17% of U.S. physical point-of-sale transaction value. These figures are reported here as cited by ConnexPay; they have not been independently checked against the original Juniper Research or Worldpay reports.
Push-to-wallet commercial virtual cards predate this ConnexPay announcement. In October 2024, Visa announced that commercial virtual cards could be pushed to Apple Pay and Google Pay, with controls including spending limits and transaction monitoring. That precedent does not establish that ConnexPay uses Visa’s implementation or offers identical features. Visa’s October 2024 announcement
