At its January 30, 2025, Surface for Business event in New York City, Microsoft announced Intel Core Ultra Series 2 versions of Surface Laptop for Business and Surface Pro for Business, a Surface USB4 Dock, and additional business features for Surface Hub 3 and device management. The new Intel PCs and dock became available February 18, 2025; the Surface Laptop 5G was planned for later in 2025.
What Microsoft announced
Microsoft made the announcements on January 30, 2025, during a livestream from the Microsoft AI Tour in New York City. In its announcement, Microsoft positioned the new Intel models as Copilot+ PCs, joining business Surface options powered by Snapdragon processors. The announcement also covered the Surface Laptop 5G, a new dock, Surface Hub 3 experiences, and management and security tools.
Microsoft’s announcement was authored by Nancie Gaskill, Vice President, Surface Business, COO. She described cloud and endpoint computing as increasingly important to organizations’ AI strategies.
Which Surface for Business models launched, and what do they cost?
Both Intel models were available starting February 18, 2025, at a starting MSRP of $1,499.99 each. The stated starting prices do not specify a particular configuration.

The Surface Laptop suits buyers who want a conventional laptop, while the Surface Pro offers a detachable tablet form factor. Microsoft also said the Pro’s enclosure uses at least 89% recycled content and includes replaceable components such as the motherboard, battery, cameras, and removable SSD. For the Laptop, Microsoft cited magnets made with 100% recycled rare-earth metals and a battery cell using 100% recycled cobalt; the cobalt claim is based on Underwriters Laboratories validation.
What Microsoft’s performance and battery figures mean
Microsoft published comparative performance figures and a battery-life estimate, all with specific test methods. They are manufacturer-reported results, not guarantees of what every buyer will experience. Microsoft notes that battery life varies with settings and use; its battery testing used preproduction 13.8-inch and 15-inch Intel configurations.

Check the needs of the intended host PC and connected displays before ordering; the announcement’s headline specifications do not establish that every display arrangement or workload will perform identically.
What about 5G and Surface Hub 3?
Surface Laptop 5G
Microsoft described the Surface Laptop 5G as its first cellular Surface Laptop for business, planned for later in 2025. The announcement did not give a price or precise release date. Microsoft cautioned that 5G and eSIM availability depends on market and carrier, so buyers should verify local support before relying on cellular connectivity.

Microsoft said the new PCs run Windows 11 Pro and are Copilot+ devices with an NPU for local AI processing. Microsoft Pluton is enabled by default on Copilot+ PCs. These features sit alongside Microsoft’s broader deployment and management tools, including Windows Autopatch, Windows Autopilot in Intune, Windows Backup, Hotpatch, and improvements to Windows Search.

Microsoft scheduled a public preview of Security Copilot in the Surface Management Portal in Microsoft Intune for February 24, 2025. The announcement described using it to help administrators search device issues, summarize warranty information, and view support tickets and service orders. That was a planned preview, not a claim that the feature was generally available on the announcement date.
Quick Recap
How to choose between the Intel Surface options
- Choose Surface Laptop if a built-in keyboard and clamshell design are the priority; select between 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes.
- Consider Surface Pro if a detachable tablet is useful, and confirm whether the optional OLED display or sign-in options fit the deployment. Budget separately for its keyboard and pen accessories.
- Compare processor platforms against application, peripheral, and organization requirements. Microsoft announced Intel Core Ultra Series 2 options alongside existing Snapdragon-powered Surface Copilot+ PCs; the event announcement does not establish which platform is preferable for every workload.
- For mobile connectivity, the Surface Laptop 5G was only a later-2025 plan in this announcement. Its market and carrier caveat matters for procurement.
- For desk setups, assess the dock’s ports, power passthrough, and dual-4K support against the exact monitors and accessories in use.
- For fleet purchasing, involve IT or a business reseller to verify configurations, regional availability, support, and accessory compatibility.
