German DDR5 prices have stopped climbing as quickly, but they have not returned to normal. In 3DCenter’s index, desktop DDR5 retail prices in Q2 2026 stood at 419% of the Q2 2025 baseline, up from 408% in Q1 2026. That is a high plateau, not an end to the price crisis: individual kits still moved sharply in both directions, and higher upstream prices could reach retailers later.

What “leveling off” means for German DDR5 prices

The clearest broad measure in the available data is 3DCenter’s German desktop DDR5 retail index. It was 419% of its Q2 2025 baseline in Q2 2026, compared with 408% in Q1 2026. In other words, the index rose modestly quarter over quarter but remained more than four times its baseline level.

That index describes retail prices for desktop DDR5 overall; it is not the price of every kit, nor a promise that a given product will follow the average. A mainstream 32GB kit, a 64GB kit and a faster 96GB kit can move differently. “Leveling off” describes the overall pace of change, not a return to affordable pre-surge prices.

Why the average can look flat while kits swing

Market averages can conceal large product-by-product changes. Tom’s Hardware tracked 20 German DDR5 kits from mid-January to the end of January 2026 and found an average increase of just 0.1%. Yet a 64GB (2×32GB) DDR5-6000 kit fell 15%, from €699 to €596, while some 96GB and 32GB configurations increased. A 32GB DDR5-6000 kit was still around €400 in that snapshot—432% above its July 2025 level.

TrendForce’s April 2026 account likewise found only a small average increase across 20 products: 0.3%, following a decline in March. The movements differed substantially by capacity and speed:

Kit configuration Reported April movement
2×48GB DDR5-6400 Up 16%
2×32GB DDR5-7200 Up 10%
2×16GB DDR5-7200 Down 13%

TrendForce said the average price across those 20 products was still roughly 4.1 times July 2025 levels. That comparison uses July 2025 as its reference, whereas 3DCenter’s index uses Q2 2025 as its baseline; the figures should not be treated as identical measurements.

Why retail prices can pause before upstream costs do

Spot, contract and retail prices measure different stages of the memory market and do not change at the same time. A chip’s spot price is not the price a German shopper pays for a boxed desktop kit. After memory is contracted, packaged, shipped and sold through distribution and retailer inventory, changes can take time to appear on store pages.

3DCenter describes a usual lag of roughly one quarter between upstream price changes and retail prices. In crisis conditions, weak sales and existing stock can extend that delay. Its Q2 2026 analysis said contract prices had begun rising faster than retail prices, leaving open the possibility of another retail increase if those costs pass through.

The scale of the upstream move helps explain the pressure, but it should not be confused with a retail price quote. DRAMeXchange’s reported DDR5 16G spot price was $5.24 in Q1 2025 and $46.67 in Q2 2026. Those are chip spot-price figures, not prices for a complete RAM kit in Germany.

Are DDR5 prices about to return to normal?

The available evidence does not establish a date for a return to pre-crisis German prices. Tom’s Hardware says normalization would require some combination of lower demand, new DRAM capacity arriving in late 2026–2027, or manufacturing-process improvements that increase efficiency. Those are possible conditions, not a guaranteed timetable.

There is also a near-term risk in the other direction: 3DCenter warned that further contract-price increases would almost certainly feed through to retail eventually, while noting that the size and timing of any increase remain uncertain. A brief discount or flat monthly average is not enough to show that supply and pricing have normalized.

Should you buy DDR5 now or wait?

There is no evidence-backed date that makes waiting a sure way to pay less. If you need memory for a build or upgrade now, compare the exact kit and buy when its price fits your budget rather than assuming the broad plateau means prices will immediately fall. If the upgrade is optional and your current system meets your needs, waiting is a reasonable way to avoid buying at a still-elevated level—but it carries the risk that prices rise again.

Compare equivalent products, not just headline capacity or a retailer’s “deal” label. Check:

  • Desktop UDIMM versus laptop SO-DIMM; they are different product types.
  • Total capacity and module arrangement, such as 2×16GB versus 2×32GB.
  • Data rate and timings, since faster kits can follow different price patterns.
  • The price history of the exact model number, as well as its current German retail price.

Tom’s Hardware’s German Amazon checks included Crucial Pro 32GB DDR5-6400, Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5-6000, G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000, Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5-6000 and Patriot Viper Venom 32GB DDR5-6000. That list illustrates why comparisons should be like-for-like; it is not a live ranking or a current price guide.

For a dated example, Tom’s Hardware reported that Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 (CMH32GX5M2E6000C36) was about €425 when checked, down from about €480 in early February 2026. A comparable Kingston kit was about €463, down from about €550. These are observations from that check, not current quotes; confirm live German pricing before buying.

What to take from the latest evidence

  • Broad German desktop DDR5 retail prices were still around four times their Q2 2025 baseline in Q2 2026.
  • Small average changes hide sharp rises and drops among individual capacity and speed combinations.
  • Retail prices can lag spot and contract markets, so a quiet period does not rule out a later move.
  • No reliable date for a return to pre-crisis pricing is established by these figures.
