Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor everyday paperwork, your iPhone or Android phone can often replace a physical scanner. Apps such as Adobe Scan and Google Drive can capture a page, straighten its perspective, and save it as a PDF or image; Adobe Scan also offers OCR to make text searchable and editable. A dedicated scanner can still make more sense for large batches, duplex jobs, or specialist media.
What a phone scanning app can do
A document-scanning app uses your phone’s camera to capture a page, detect its edges, and correct the perspective so the result looks more like a flat document than a photograph. Depending on the app, you can save the scan as a PDF or an image file. Optical character recognition (OCR) can also identify words in a scan, making them searchable; some apps let you edit the recognized text.
That covers many ordinary needs, including receipts, forms, and pages you want to keep or share. It does not establish that a phone will match a scanner for every job: the result depends on camera quality, lighting, how flat the page is, and how carefully you frame it.

How to scan a document with Adobe Scan
- Install Adobe Scan from the App Store or Google Play on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Open the app and capture the page. Use even lighting, keep the paper as flat as possible, and frame the full page.
- Review the detected edges and crop. Adjust the result if the app has missed a corner or included too much background.
- Save the scan as a PDF. If you want Adobe’s cloud copy, give synchronization time to finish before closing the app.
Adobe describes the app as creating PDFs or JPEGs and using OCR for searchable, editable words. Its FAQ says Adobe Scan works on both major mobile platforms and includes 5 GB of Adobe cloud storage. See Adobe’s Scan FAQ for its app details.

How to scan with Google Drive
If you already organize files in Google Drive, use its scanning feature rather than installing a separate scanner app. Google’s help documentation covers scanning in Drive on Android and iOS. For Android, Google’s instructions say a scan can be saved as a PDF or JPG, and you can add a scanning shortcut to your home screen.
- Open the Google Drive app and choose its scan action.
- Capture the document, then review the image and crop.
- Choose PDF or JPG for the saved scan on Android, and save it in Drive.
Google’s instructions describe the scanning feature and Android output options in its Drive scanning help.

What happened to Microsoft Lens?
Microsoft’s retirement notice says Lens was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on February 9, 2026, and remained usable for scanning until March 9, 2026. Microsoft recommends OneDrive’s built-in scanner as the replacement. Those dates are the timeline in Microsoft’s notice; if you are reading this after the stated end date, do not assume Lens remains available for scanning. See Microsoft’s Lens retirement notice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When a physical scanner is still the better fit
- High-volume batches: A phone app requires you to position and capture pages one at a time; a scanner designed for document batches may fit repetitive work better.
- Duplex workflows: If you regularly scan both sides of many sheets, a scanner with a duplex workflow may be more convenient.
- Specialist media: Photos, delicate originals, or other media with particular capture needs may call for dedicated equipment.
The cited app documentation describes features, not a controlled image-quality comparison, so it does not establish which method is faster or more accurate. For occasional paperwork, try a phone scan first; if your work depends on throughput or specialized capture, assess a physical scanner for that specific job.
