Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) plans an initial deployment of 50,000 AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs, with deployment scheduled to begin in calendar Q3 2026. The announcement describes a planned AI supercluster—not GPUs already operating in Oracle’s cloud—and does not give customer pricing or confirm regional availability.
What Oracle announced
In an AMD newsroom release published October 14, 2025, AMD said OCI would be a launch partner for a publicly available AI supercluster powered by MI450 Series GPUs. The initial deployment is planned to begin in Q3 2026, with expansion in 2027 and beyond. Oracle and AMD have not announced a final deployment schedule beyond that plan.
The “50,000 chips” in the announcement are GPUs, not 50,000 complete servers or racks. They are intended for large-scale AI training and inference. “Publicly available” describes the planned cloud service; it does not mean the hardware is available to provision today.
What the planned Helios system includes
The supercluster is based on AMD’s Helios rack design. AMD describes each dense, liquid-cooled rack as containing 72 GPUs, alongside next-generation AMD EPYC CPUs codenamed “Venice” and AMD Pensando networking codenamed “Vulcano.”

MI450 memory and bandwidth
AMD lists up to 432 GB of HBM4 memory and 20 TB/s of memory bandwidth per MI450 GPU. AMD says the capacity is intended to let customers train and run inference on models 50 percent larger than previous generations entirely in memory. Those figures and the model-size comparison are AMD’s published specifications and claims; the October 2025 release does not provide independent benchmark results.
Networking and software
- Vulcano AI-NICs: AMD describes support for up to three 800 Gbps Pensando AI-NICs per GPU.
- GPU connectivity: The design includes UALink and UALoE connectivity.
- Software: AMD says the system will support ROCm open-source software, as well as GPU partitioning and virtualization.
- Confidential computing: AMD identifies confidential-computing features in the future EPYC CPUs used in the design.
How MI450 fits OCI’s AMD GPU roadmap
AMD’s announcement places MI450 after earlier AMD GPU offerings on OCI. It says OCI launched MI300X-powered shapes in 2024 and describes MI355X-powered OCI Compute in the zettascale OCI Supercluster as generally available. AMD says the MI355X supercluster can scale to 131,072 GPUs. MI450 is the next announced step and, according to AMD, the first publicly available hyperscaler AI supercluster using that GPU family.
| OCI offering | What AMD’s announcement says |
|---|---|
| MI300X-powered shapes | OCI launched them in 2024. |
| MI355X-powered OCI Compute | Described as generally available in the zettascale OCI Supercluster; AMD says it can scale to 131,072 GPUs. |
| MI450 Helios supercluster | Initial deployment of 50,000 GPUs planned to begin in Q3 2026, with expansion in 2027 and beyond. |
What this means for OCI customers
The announcement gives OCI another planned accelerator option for AI workloads and expands Oracle’s relationship with AMD. For organizations evaluating it, the architecture’s large GPU memory, high stated bandwidth, rack-scale networking, and ROCm support are relevant factors—particularly for training or inference workloads designed to use AMD’s software stack.
Those specifications alone do not establish how a particular model or application will perform. Customers will need workload-specific benchmarks, software compatibility details, and service terms to compare MI450 with other cloud accelerators. AMD’s release does not publish independent performance comparisons.

Does this mean Oracle is moving away from Nvidia?
The announcement establishes that Oracle plans to add a large AMD-based supercluster. It does not say Oracle is replacing Nvidia hardware, reducing a stated level of reliance on Nvidia, or reserving the MI450 system for particular customers. The supported conclusion is that AMD will be another announced accelerator option on OCI; Oracle’s broader sourcing strategy is not established by this release.
When can customers use MI450, and what will it cost?
AMD’s stated target is for initial deployment to begin in calendar Q3 2026, followed by expansion in 2027 and beyond. The announcement does not specify when individual customers can provision capacity, which OCI regions will offer it, instance configurations, reservation terms, or prices. Those commercial details should not be inferred from the planned GPU count.
