Yes, Sakura Wars creator Oji Hiroi says he came up with a plot concept for a possible Sakura Wars 6. RPG Site describes it as a direct sequel to Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. But Hiroi’s remarks do not mean Sega has approved or begun developing a new game.
What Hiroi has said about Sakura Wars 6
In comments from a Weekly Famitsu anniversary interview summarized by Gematsu and RPG Site in September and October 2026, Hiroi said the concept came about because there had been discussions about making another game. Gematsu translated his explanation as: “I only came up with the plot for 6 because there had been discussions about making the next game.”
RPG Site characterizes the proposed story as a direct sequel to Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. That is a description of Hiroi’s concept, not confirmation that Sega approved a sequel or that a complete game script exists.
The one disclosed story detail: Black Swan
Hiroi mentioned a character called Black Swan who is in cold sleep, also rendered as “cryogenic hibernation” in Gematsu’s translation. He described her as a good character. The reports do not provide a fuller plot summary, additional characters, or details about the game’s setting or design.

Is Sakura Wars 6 in development?
No active development project, approved prototype, release date, or platform was announced in the coverage. Hiroi said he would properly consider working on a prototype if he were asked to do so with a team identified and compensation arranged. RPG Site published his conditional response as: “That’s why I’ll think about it when I get told ‘We’ve decided to create a prototype (for a game) so let’s do it together.’” That wording is RPG Site’s translation of the interview, not a direct quotation checked against the Japanese magazine.
Hiroi also said the plot might no longer be on his computer and declined to say who might have another copy. The available comments therefore establish that he once developed a concept, not that a finished, usable script is currently in hand.

What Sega has said about the wider series
Separate remarks in the anniversary coverage should not be mistaken for confirmation of Sakura Wars 6. Sega producer Akira Nishino said the company wants to bring the original games through Sakura Wars V to modern platforms, but cited unspecified circumstances that make progress difficult. No port, platform, or schedule was announced.
Nishino also described having a vision for how 2019’s New Sakura Wars could continue through its conclusion, without confirming a sequel or explaining how that vision would be realized. Scenario writer Satoru Akahori said he had recently become “just a little involved” with something related to the franchise but could not yet disclose what it was. Neither comment identifies that work as Sakura Wars 6.

The interview also described annual project proposals, including proposals that led to a stage production and the now-defunct mobile game Sakura Revolution. These points provide franchise context, but do not change the status of Hiroi’s game concept.
