A proposed Home Assistant Marketplace would bring a HACS-like way to find and manage community-made content into Home Assistant’s own interface. The available description says users could browse before accepting a first-run warning, but would need to accept it before installing or updating; it also says those catalog actions would not require a GitHub account. Those are proposed behaviors, not confirmation that Marketplace has merged or shipped. Check the pull request’s current status and official release notes before treating it as available. What the proposed Marketplace would change

HACS, the Home Assistant Community Store, is a way to discover and manage community-created content such as integrations, dashboards, themes, and templates. The proposal described in a September 28, 2026 community-forum search result would put a similar catalog experience inside Home Assistant as a built-in Marketplace. Home Assistant Community forum

As described, the system integration would be set up by default. Users could browse the catalog before acknowledging a first-run warning, while installation and updating would remain gated until they accept it. The same proposal summary says a GitHub account would not be needed for browsing, installing, or updating. These details may change if the pull request is revised; the forum result does not establish a final feature name, release, or shipped behavior.

Is HACS going away?

The proposal points to a possible change in where Home Assistant users manage community content; it does not establish that HACS is being discontinued. Nor does the available description settle how an eventual Marketplace would coexist with HACS, whether existing repositories would transfer, or what content categories and compatibility information the final interface would show. Until Home Assistant confirms those details, users should not assume that Marketplace replaces HACS or changes how their current installations work.

A Marketplace listing would not make an integration official

A first-party catalog interface and an official Home Assistant integration are different things. Home Assistant’s developer guidance says custom integrations are community-developed, are not part of official releases, and can vary in functionality, security, stability, and support. It states: “The Home Assistant project does not review, security audit, maintain, or support third-party custom integrations.” Home Assistant Integration quality scale

That distinction matters even if a catalog appears within Home Assistant itself. A listing or installation path alone does not establish that Home Assistant has reviewed the code, guarantees compatibility, or will fix problems. The project’s separate route for eligible integrations to be contributed to Core has quality and maturity requirements; catalog presence is not evidence that an integration has completed that process. How community repositories are handled in HACS today

HACS’s current default-repository process is not simply an unrestricted list. Its documentation says a repository owner or major contributor can request default inclusion, and projects must pass checks that include the HACS action; integrations also need to pass Home Assistant’s hassfest checks. Some integrations that test or override Core integrations are not accepted as defaults, although they may still be usable as custom repositories. HACS default repositories

Aqara Smart Home Hub M3 for Advanced Automation, Matter Controller, IR
  • [Multi-Protocol Hub with Matter Bridge] The M3 is a versatile hub supporting Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices. It integrates third-party devices into the Aqara Home app. Supports advanced Matter bridge functionality, enabling Aqara-exclusive scenes and signals to sync with Matter ecosystems such as Home Assistant for seamless integration. Supports up to 127 Aqara Zigbee devices (** Not third-party Zigbee devices) and 127 Thread devices (Repeaters are needed).
  • [Edge Compatibilities and Local Automations] The M3 serves as an Edge Hub, prioritizing local control and automation. Upon integration, it supersedes existing Aqara hubs, shifting the automations among them to local operation (Some cloud-based notifications still require internet). Upgrade-friendly, it supports migrating Zigbee devices from older Aqara hubs.
  • [Smart IR Blaster with Feedback and Learning] The 360°IR blaster not only sends commands but also provides accurate status updates by detecting traditional remote use. It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)
  • [Optimal Wired and Wireless Connectivity] Offering both wired and wireless solutions, the smart home hub M3 provides dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) with advanced WPA3 security, and a Power over Ethernet (PoE) port. The addition of a USB-C port allows for mini-UPS and power bank connections, delivering unparalleled stability. (2A USB power adapter is not included. ) . Note: To ensure a stable connection, place the Hub M3 between 6 to 19 feet from the router.
  • [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.

The available Marketplace proposal description does not say whether it would use the same screening, how it would categorize repositories, or how it would handle custom repositories. Those details should not be inferred from HACS’s existing process.

What to consider before installing a custom integration

Home Assistant says dependency problems most often involve custom integrations installed outside its official integration store, including ones installed through HACS. A custom integration may not support a new Home Assistant release yet, or it may conflict with another custom integration. Home Assistant dependency problems FAQ

  • Check the project: Review its source code and community feedback, as Home Assistant recommends, and look for recent maintenance and reports from users running your Home Assistant version. A catalog entry is not a substitute for that assessment.
  • After a problem, start with the logs: Restart Home Assistant and check the logs for the error. Then check whether the integration has an update available and consult its issue tracker for known compatibility problems.
  • Use a backup if an update caused a failure: If the problem began after an update and you have an automatic backup available, restoring it is one option while waiting for a fix. Home Assistant dependency problems FAQ

Why the warning is relevant—and what it cannot tell you

Home Assistant disclosed on January 22, 2021 that vulnerabilities had been found in multiple third-party custom integrations. The disclosure identified an unauthenticated directory-traversal issue in an older HACS version, fixed in HACS 1.10.0; Home Assistant Core 2021.1.3 added protections against reaching the vulnerable code. The disclosure advised affected users to update integrations or remove them and update credentials where appropriate. This is historical context about older software, not evidence that current HACS or the proposed Marketplace is vulnerable. Home Assistant security disclosure, January 22, 2021

A warning can make the risks of community code clearer, but accepting one does not verify an integration’s safety or compatibility. The practical responsibility remains to choose projects carefully, keep them updated, and use logs, issue trackers, and backups when something breaks.
