But the title’s 75-mile figure needs context. The 2017 model is rated for 115 miles by Ford; ENERGY STAR lists 76 miles for the 2016 model. A 75-mile result may describe a particular drive or an older car, but it is not the 2017 EPA-estimated range.
What is the Focus Electric like to drive?
The Focus Electric keeps the familiar five-seat Focus hatchback format, with front-wheel drive and a single-speed automatic rather than a conventional multi-gear transmission. Its 107-kW electric motor is rated at 143 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, and Ford lists an 84-mph top speed.
Regenerative braking recovers energy as the car slows, giving the driving experience a one-pedal-adjacent quality. That description is about how the braking can feel; it does not mean the car is necessarily driven entirely with one pedal. The supplied information does not identify a named tester whose subjective impressions can be attributed, so these are vehicle specifications and feature descriptions rather than a claim of firsthand testing.
How far can a Ford Focus Electric go?
Range depends on the model year. Ford Motor Company’s 2017 specifications give the 2017 Focus Electric an EPA-estimated 115-mile range. ENERGY STAR’s 2017 vehicle entry also lists 115 miles, with 126 city miles and 102 highway miles. For the 2016 model, ENERGY STAR lists 76 miles. Those figures are not interchangeable: check the model year before comparing a listing or estimating a commute.

| Model year and source | Electric range | Efficiency |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 — Ford Motor Company | 115 miles, EPA-estimated | 107 combined MPGe; 118 city and 96 highway MPGe |
| 2017 — ENERGY STAR vehicle entry | 115 miles; 126 city and 102 highway miles | 107 combined MPGe; 31 kWh/100 miles |
| 2016 — ENERGY STAR vehicle entry | 76 miles | Not stated in the cited 2016 entry |
ENERGY STAR’s city and highway range estimates are not a promise that every driver will achieve those distances. Actual range varies with temperature, speed, heating or air-conditioning use, battery age and route. A 75-mile drive could be realistic in a particular Focus Electric, especially one with the shorter-range 2016 specification or under demanding conditions, but it is not the general rating for a 2017 car.
How long does a Focus Electric take to charge?
The car’s combined charging port supports 120-volt and 240-volt AC charging as well as DC fast charging. Charge time depends on the power available, charging equipment, battery state and conditions; the published figures below are estimates, not a guarantee for every session.

| Charging option | Published time | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 120V household outlet | About 16 hours | Ford estimate using a 230V/10A outlet specification |
| 240V wallbox | About five hours | Ford estimate for a 32A wallbox |
| 240V charging | Six hours | ENERGY STAR 2017 vehicle entry |
| CCS DC fast charger | About 80% in about 30 minutes | Ford estimate on a qualifying CCS charger rated at 50 kW or more |
The supplied 120V charging cable can be useful when a suitable household outlet is available, but it is the slowest option in these figures. For regular home charging, a compatible 240V setup can substantially shorten the wait. On a trip, a CCS-capable DC fast charger is the relevant option for a faster stop.
Does the Focus Electric have CCS fast charging?
Yes. Ford describes the combined port as supporting CCS DC fast charging. Its estimate of about 80 percent in about 30 minutes applies to a qualifying 50-kW-or-higher CCS charger. Confirm the connector and charging capability of the specific car and station before relying on a route plan; AC charging cables and DC fast-charging connectors are not interchangeable accessories.

What do you get for everyday practicality?
The Focus Electric combines an electric drivetrain with compact-hatchback utility. It has five seats and 14.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear row. The listed equipment includes heated front seats, SYNC 3, navigation, regenerative braking and a supplied 120V charging cable.
Ford’s 2017 figures give efficiency as 107 combined MPGe (118 city and 96 highway). ENERGY STAR’s 2017 entry lists 31 kWh per 100 miles. These are standardized figures, not a forecast of an individual owner’s electricity use or bill.

Is the 2017 Focus Electric worth buying used?
It can make sense for a buyer whose regular trips fit the car’s real-world range and who can charge at home or conveniently nearby. Its appeal is the ordinary hatchback layout and everyday electric driving; its main compromise is less flexibility for long journeys than a longer-range EV. The 2017 starting MSRP was $29,120 according to Cars.com’s 2017 research page, but that historical new-car price does not establish what a used example is worth today.
Used-car feedback is limited. Cars.com’s current consumer-review page shows that 80 percent of five reviewers recommend the car, a small sample rather than a reliability rate. One owner review from 2024 describes a battery-warranty dispute and alleges coolant, contactor, fuse and gear-drive failures. Treat that account as an individual warning to investigate a specific car, not evidence that those faults occur at a particular frequency.

What to check before buying
- Battery condition: Ask for a battery state-of-health assessment or diagnostic report, and consider an independent inspection.
- Warranty: Check the remaining battery warranty using the vehicle identification number (VIN), and confirm coverage directly with Ford or a dealer.
- Charging: Inspect the charge port for damage and corrosion, and verify that the car charges on the AC and DC equipment you expect to use.
- Records: Review service history and ask about any battery, cooling-system, charging or drivetrain repairs.
- Included equipment: Confirm whether the 120V charging cable is present; the listed original equipment does not guarantee that a used car still has it.
- Fit for your routes: Compare your daily distance with the model year’s published range, leaving room for weather, highway speeds and cabin heating or cooling.
For a routine local commute, a well-inspected example with a healthy battery and practical charging access may suit the job. If frequent long trips or minimal charging stops are essential, the Focus Electric’s published range makes it a more constrained choice.
