Feroot Security announced an $11 million seed round led by True Ventures on February 28, 2022. The company said it would use the funding to accelerate product development and go-to-market initiatives for its browser-focused web application security products.
What is Feroot Security?
Feroot Security is a cybersecurity company focused on the client-side layer of web applications: the parts that run in a visitor’s browser. Its premise was that organizations often invest in server-side defenses while overlooking risks in the scripts, forms, trackers and other components that shape the customer-facing experience.
Feroot co-founder and CEO Ivan Tsarynny said, “A shocking 98% of websites use forms to collect personal and financial data from customers.” That figure was a statement attributed to Tsarynny in Feroot’s 2022 announcement, not an independently sourced industry study.
What does Feroot protect?
Feroot described its focus as browser-facing security, including the code and services loaded into web pages. The company cited compromised marketing forms, known JavaScript vulnerabilities, third-party scripts and marketing trackers as areas of concern. SecurityWeek also described the products as addressing cross-site scripting (XSS), formjacking, skimmers and other JavaScript threats.

The underlying risk is that a website’s behavior can depend on scripts from several providers. A script may not have been malicious when first introduced, but its interactions with other scripts and services can create exposure. Feroot co-founder and CTO Vitaliy Lim explained: “When developers start to cobble together different services and variations of items on their websites and web applications, it’s clear that scripts that were not initially malicious can become malicious with the correct (or, in this case, unfortunate) set of combinations.”
How did Feroot’s products work?
Feroot positioned its products as ways to see, analyze and control activity in the browser, with monitoring and response capabilities:
| Product | Role described by Feroot |
|---|---|
| Inspector | JavaScript analysis and monitoring, providing visibility into code running in web pages. |
| PageGuard | Permissions, controls and protection for the client-side environment. |
Feroot framed these capabilities around web forms, trackers, third-party scripts and payment-related experiences. The 2022 funding announcement described the products’ positioning, rather than providing independent performance measurements or a detailed technical comparison with competing tools.
Who funded Feroot, and why did it raise $11 million?
True Ventures led the February 28, 2022, seed round. Feroot said the investment would help it meet growing customer demand by speeding up product development and go-to-market work. Tsarynny and Lim were the company’s co-founders and CEO and CTO, respectively. Feroot said the founders chose True Ventures after receiving offers from multiple venture firms.

True Ventures’ description in Feroot’s announcement said the firm had more than $2.8 billion under management and had helped more than 300 companies. Those figures reflect the investor profile as presented at the time of the 2022 announcement, not current totals.
The $11 million announcement followed an earlier financing. Feroot announced a $2.5 million seed round in July 2021 involving Y Combinator and cybersecurity executives Jon Oberheide, Kevin Mahaffey, Zane Lackey, Varun Badhwar, Dave Wichers, Jenny Yang, Michael Sutton and Sounil Yu. SecurityWeek reported that the later True Ventures-led round brought Feroot’s total seed financing to more than $11 million.

Why does client-side web application security matter?
Server-side protections do not, by themselves, give an organization visibility into every script executed in a customer’s browser. Client-side security addresses that gap by focusing on the code and third-party resources that users encounter directly. Feroot argued that the growing use of distributed interfaces made those risks harder to manage. True Ventures partner Puneet Agarwal said, “As interfaces are built in an increasingly distributed way, security challenges have only become harder to tackle.”
For businesses that rely on forms or browser-based payment flows, the practical concern is that a compromised or unsafe script could affect what customers see or submit. Feroot’s stated approach was to monitor JavaScript and provide controls over browser-side activity, rather than treating web application security solely as a back-end problem. Tsarynny said organizations should prioritize front-end security because client-side attacks would continue to grow in scope and magnitude.
