How the three design assistants differ
These tools all accept natural-language instructions, but they are built around different kinds of work. Figma’s agent operates inside a product-design canvas. Firefly connects conversational assistance to Adobe’s creative tools and asset types. Designer focuses on prompt-based graphics and image editing. Can AI create a UI from a prompt?
Yes: Figma describes an agent that can generate layouts from prompts, then create or edit layers in the design file. Its advantage for UI work is that it can draw on the file’s existing components, tokens, and variables rather than treating every screen as an isolated image. It can also build components from existing libraries and work with feedback on the canvas.
That context does not make a generated interface production-ready by itself. Figma says output varies with the prompt, file context, and task complexity, and recommends reviewing it before final use. A useful workflow is to prompt for a specific screen or change, inspect the result against the actual library and requirements, then refine it and share the iteration thread for review. Figma also documents reusable skills for workflows that prove useful.

Which assistant fits each kind of design work?
Choose Figma for interface work tied to an existing design system
Figma is the most directly aligned option when the work needs to stay in a product-design file, reuse established components and variables, or move through feedback and iteration with a team. Its documented ability to summarize feedback and apply feedback on the canvas is especially relevant when design revisions originate in review conversations. These capabilities make it a better fit for interface exploration than a general-purpose graphics app, but they do not eliminate the need to check the result against product requirements.
Choose Firefly for broader creative production
Firefly is designed for creative work that may move among image, vector, and video tasks, with Adobe describing it as integrated with Creative Cloud. The assistant’s documented tools include image generation, vectorization, video transcoding, generative expand, and routine image adjustments. Adobe’s February 12, 2025 newsroom release reported more than 18 billion Firefly assets generated globally; that figure is Adobe’s published total as of that announcement, not a measure of output quality or an assurance about a particular project.

Adobe’s commercial-safety statement should be read with its scope intact: the company called the Firefly Video Model the industry’s first commercially safe AI video generation model in its 2025 announcement and described Firefly as IP-friendly. That is Adobe’s positioning, not a guarantee that every generated asset, selectable model, or use is free of rights questions. Review the terms and asset provenance relevant to the specific work.
Choose Designer for fast personal graphics in Microsoft workflows
Designer is suited to making items such as social posts, banners, invitations, stickers, and image edits from prompts, then using them alongside Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Photos. Microsoft also documents AI-created brand kits and tools including background removal or blur and image upscaling. The practical boundary is its documented personal, non-commercial license: do not treat the consumer app as approved for client or business work without verifying that your specific account and applicable terms grant those rights.

“Safe” can mean several different things: whether content is used for model training, whether outputs carry provenance information, whether prompts are moderated, and whether the license permits the intended use. The documented controls differ, so assess each one rather than treating a broad claim such as “commercially safe” as a substitute for checking your project’s requirements.

For client work, check the terms for the exact product, plan, account type, and model you intend to use. Confirm that the license covers the deliverable, follow your client’s rules for AI-assisted work, and review generated assets before publication. The cited product statements do not establish that any assistant can guarantee originality, legal clearance, or suitability for every commercial use.
