What happened in Faizullaganj
After water levels appeared to recede on Thursday, floodwater surged back into Faizullaganj on Friday, 2 October, as the Gomti rose again, Hindustan Times reported on 3 October 2026. The newspaper described the flooding as extending into its sixth consecutive day. No official river-gauge series or independent event chronology is included in that account, so the timing and duration should be understood as the report’s description.
Millat Nagar, Zainab Masjid and Ram Vihar Colony were among the affected pockets named in the report. It described knee-deep water in affected areas and said more than 200 homes were completely submerged. The article does not explain how those household counts or water depths were measured.
Rescue and relief response reported by officials
Hindustan Times reported that the Lucknow Municipal Corporation deployed 15 boats. Officials separately told the newspaper that 24 boats had been deployed for rescue and relief. The report also said three flood relief camps and a control room had been established, with divers ready for emergencies. These are reported deployment figures and arrangements, not independently confirmed status updates.

The district magistrate reportedly directed officials to arrange 10 additional boats, identify children, older residents and pregnant women for priority relocation if required, and regularly clear garbage and debris from floodwater. A team of additional district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates and tehsildars was said to be monitoring conditions in shifts.
Why the water is persisting, according to the civic body
The municipal corporation’s position, as relayed by Hindustan Times, is that Faizullaganj acts as a natural catchment for river water, so pumping alone cannot provide lasting relief. Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said flooding would remain a challenge until an embankment prevents river water from entering the area.

The news report does not provide an engineering study, an independent hydrological assessment or a construction schedule for an embankment. The catchment explanation and proposed long-term remedy should therefore be read as the corporation’s stated view, not as an independently established assessment.
What residents and officials said
SDM (Sadar) Sahil Singh said: “The increase in water level has become a major problem. Once the level stabilises and subsequently starts falling, the situation here will gradually improve.”

Local activist Mamta Tripathi described worsening conditions as water reached new areas. “The struggle is only escalating as water enters fresh areas,” she said, adding that the few boats operating in the area were struggling to meet demand in marooned neighborhoods.
