There is no evidence-based overall winner among Stable Audio, Suno and Udio. Stable Audio is the clearest fit for sound design and for creators who want generated audio in a DAW workflow. Suno is a documented option for making songs, but commercial use depends on the specific output meeting Suno’s terms and download rules. Udio’s reported transition after its 2025 settlement makes older comparisons unreliable; its present availability, features, export options and licensing need to be checked before you choose it.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Stable Audio for sound design and a DAW-centered process
Stable Audio is the strongest documented fit if you need to create or revise sound effects, loops or other audio elements and then work with them in an existing production setup. Stability AI describes browser, plugin and API workflows, as well as audio-to-audio editing and inpainting. Its product page lists a Stable Audio 3.0 plugin compatible with major DAWs including Ableton, Logic and Pro Tools. Those are vendor-described capabilities, not independent evidence that its output sounds better than competitors’.

Treat “experimental” as important: if separate stems are essential to your project, confirm that the feature is available and suitable for your intended use before building a workflow around it. Choose Suno for song creation, after checking output eligibility
Suno is the documented option here for creating songs. The key decision is not simply whether you pay for a subscription; it is whether the particular output qualifies under the current terms and download policy. Suno’s terms condition commercial exploitation on following its service rules and obtaining a permitted download within the download allocation for the applicable tier. Do not rely on an old Udio comparison
Associated Press reported in October 2025 that Udio settled with Universal Music and entered licensing arrangements while planning a new AI music subscription service. AP reported in November 2025 that Udio gave users a 48-hour window to download existing tracks as it shifted its model after the settlement. This history does not establish what Udio offers now, whether the service is available in the form a reader expects, or what its current export and licensing rules are. Can you use AI-generated music commercially?
Stable Audio: check the current terms, not just the older detailed page
Stable Audio’s current terms page gives an effective date of July 31, 2025. The detailed terms available at a separate URL are dated September 12, 2023: they say Basic users may use outputs for non-commercial projects, while Pro users may use them in specified commercial projects, commercial music releases and certain commercial products. Those older terms also set an enterprise-license threshold where a commercial product incorporating generated content exceeds 100,000 monthly active users. Because those details come from a 2023 page, do not treat them as current legal guidance without checking the current terms and any incorporated policies. Suno: a paid account is not blanket clearance
Suno’s help material says rights for an eligible permitted download persist despite later changes to the download allotment or pricing and after subscription expiry or cancellation. That is narrower than a general promise that every track generated by a paid subscriber can be used commercially: the download must qualify under the applicable rules. Check the paid subscription rights guidance, terms and download policy for the track and use you have in mind.
Udio: verify before relying on an old license claim
The cited reports describe Udio’s settlement-related transition, but do not establish its current license or export rules. Do not carry forward a pre-transition claim about commercial rights or downloads without confirming the current official terms.

For Stable Audio, confirm current terms and any plan or API costs directly with the service. For Udio, establish that the product, export route and license you need are currently available before comparing its cost with the others.
