Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government ensured welfare benefits reached poor people directly through bank accounts. Hindustan Times reported his remarks on October 2, 2026, at a programme in Lucknow. The report records Adityanath’s political claims; it does not independently verify how widely or effectively benefits were delivered.
What Yogi Adityanath said about welfare benefits
At the Lok Bhavan programme, Adityanath linked the opening of Jan Dhan bank accounts to direct transfers, saying that money once siphoned from public funds was now reaching intended recipients. He said: “Today it is clear that the money of the poor is reaching their accounts directly.”
He also criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) period from 2004 to 2014 and said schemes introduced since 2014 served all sections without discrimination. Those are Adityanath’s political characterisation of the periods, not an independently established comparison in the Hindustan Times report.
Which schemes and benefits he cited
Adityanath listed housing, toilets, LPG connections, health insurance and free foodgrains as examples of support reaching poor households. He referred to the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana when saying, “Today, no person in the country has to sleep hungry.”

The report attributes these examples and the statement about hunger to Adityanath. It does not provide separate data establishing the reach, timeliness or outcomes of the schemes.
Where the remarks were made and what the event involved
The remarks came at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, during a programme marking what the report described as Modi’s 25 years in public service. The event staged a theatrical series called “Namo Seva: Ankahi Kahaniyan,” organised by the culture department and Bharatendu Natya Academy.

According to Hindustan Times, the performance depicted Modi’s public-service journey beginning with the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and reconstruction of Kachchh. Adityanath directed that performances be staged across Uttar Pradesh, with local languages and folk songs adapted to regional settings.
Other claims in the report
Adityanath described Modi’s public-service journey as one “without stopping, bowing or wavering.” The report placed the 25-year milestone on October 7, 2026, spanning Modi’s terms as Gujarat chief minister and prime minister.

Hindustan Times also reported Adityanath’s claim that India had more than 2.5 lakh startups. The report attributes that figure to him and does not independently corroborate it.

It does not independently audit direct transfers, verify the claim that nobody has to sleep hungry, compare welfare delivery across governments, or substantiate the startup count.
