Macquarie Electronics was appointed to remarket selected 300 mm wafer-fabrication equipment from Qimonda AG’s Dresden, Germany, facility in 2009. The appointment was part of Qimonda’s insolvency proceedings; it was not an announcement of a new fab or proof that the tools ultimately sold.
Who was selling Qimonda’s German-fab tools?
Qimonda’s insolvency administrator appointed Macquarie Electronics to resell selected equipment from the Dresden wafer-fabrication facility, according to EE Times’ July 1, 2009 report. Macquarie was described as a San Diego-based semiconductor-equipment remarketing specialist.
A Macquarie spokesman clarified the distinction between the two locations: “Colliers is selling Qimonda Richmond fab/tools. We are remarketing tools from Dresden.” The Dresden assignment was therefore Macquarie’s, while the U.S. Richmond tools were being handled through a separate process.
What equipment was available from the Dresden fab?
The reports describe selected 300 mm wafer-fabrication equipment, as well as equipment for testing, assembly and packaging. Manufacturers named in the reports included:

These are manufacturer names, not a complete inventory: the reports do not provide a tool-by-tool lot list, model numbers, configurations or quantities. The EDN report also notes that some Qimonda holdings had already been sold, including the Dresden photomask center; that does not establish the disposition of the selected fab tools in Macquarie’s assignment.
How did the Dresden resale differ from the Richmond process?
Qimonda’s Dresden and Richmond assets were not described as a single sale. Macquarie was remarketing tools from Dresden. For the Richmond, Virginia fab and tools, Colliers International, Emerald Technology Valuations LLC and Gordon Brothers were assisting with the sale, subject to bankruptcy-court approval, according to EDN’s 2009 report.
Did the Dresden tools sell, and what was the price?
The cited July 2009 reports establish Macquarie’s appointment and the broad categories and manufacturers of equipment available. They do not report final buyers, completed sales of the selected tools, prices, lot counts or total proceeds. No current Macquarie resale program or inventory is established by those reports, so they cannot support a claim that the Dresden tools remain available today.
