Intel says it addressed 374 vulnerabilities during calendar year 2024: 272 in software, 81 in firmware and 21 in hardware. The company’s report also says proactive product-security assurance accounted for 96% of vulnerabilities discovered and mitigated. These figures describe Intel’s annual disclosure and remediation tally—not 374 identical flaws, and not vulnerabilities that necessarily affect every Intel customer.
What Intel’s 2024 vulnerability count covers
Intel’s 2024 Product Security Report analyzes vulnerabilities disclosed during the 2024 calendar year across Intel products and technologies. Its headline figure is a company-wide tally of vulnerabilities addressed; it does not mean every item affected every Intel product or user.
The 96% proactive-assurance figure is Intel’s characterization of the share of vulnerabilities discovered and mitigated through proactive product-security assurance. It is not a severity rating or a measure of how many vulnerabilities affected customers.
How the 374 vulnerabilities break down
| Category | Count | Examples of areas covered |
|---|---|---|
| Software | 272 | Applications, drivers, toolkits, SDKs and utilities |
| Firmware | 81 | Platform firmware, wireless and FPGA components, Intel NUC, SSDs and server boards |
| Hardware | 21 | All were discovered internally by Intel researchers |
These categories are useful for understanding where reported issues arose, but the counts alone do not indicate severity, exploitability, or whether a particular device needs an update. Intel’s cited report does not provide one aggregate severity distribution for all 374 items.

How Intel handles vulnerability reports
Intel’s Product Security Incident Response Team describes its process as identify, mitigate and disclose. Its stated goal is to minimize customer impact through mitigation and public disclosure of vulnerabilities that may affect Intel-shipped and supported products. Intel advisories typically include a summary, CVE identifier, CVSS base information, affected products and versions, recommended mitigations, and acknowledgments.
Intel’s PSIRT process and reporting guidance directs vulnerability reports through Intigriti. Advisories may provide a fix or a workaround, depending on the issue and affected product.

How to check whether your Intel system needs action
- Identify the exact device and platform. Note the Intel product, processor or platform generation, and the software or firmware version. The 374 total does not establish that your system is affected.
- Find the matching Intel advisory. Search the Security Center for the affected component or product, then compare the advisory’s affected products and versions with your system.
- Follow the advisory’s mitigation. Install the specified BIOS, firmware, driver or software update, or use the documented workaround if a fix is not available.
- Check with the system or server manufacturer when needed. Intel notes that platform-firmware distribution may be handled by partners, so the required BIOS update may come from your device or server OEM rather than directly from Intel.
What the figure can—and cannot—say about Intel security
The report gives a useful snapshot of the volume and category mix of vulnerabilities Intel addressed in 2024, along with Intel’s reported proactive-assurance share. It cannot, by itself, show whether Intel’s security performance was better or worse than another vendor’s. A meaningful comparison would also need consistent data on severity, disclosure timing, mitigation clarity and the kinds of products counted. The report does not supply a single severity distribution covering all 374 items.
