A Rivian battery recall does not automatically mean the whole pack will be replaced. In the 2025 safety recall, Rivian will inspect the high-voltage distribution box (HVDB) ground connection and repair it or replace the high-voltage battery pack if needed. A separate 2024 customer-satisfaction campaign for certain vehicles with potentially suspect battery cells prescribed pack replacement. Coverage is vehicle-specific, so check the VIN and have Rivian confirm the repair and appointment details.
Which Rivian battery campaign applies to your vehicle?
Two distinct U.S. campaigns are relevant: the 2025 safety recall for a possible HVDB grounding defect, and a 2024 customer-satisfaction campaign for potentially suspect battery cells. They address different problems and have different remedies. Neither applies to every R1T or R1S of a given model year; ask Rivian to check your vehicle identification number (VIN) and confirm whether any campaign is open for your vehicle.

What happens during the 2025 HVDB recall repair?
Inspection determines the remedy
The recall concerns the HVDB ground-strap joint, not a finding that every affected vehicle needs a new battery. Rivian’s filing says: “Rivian will inspect and repair the HVDB ground strap joint on the potentially affected vehicles or replace the high voltage battery pack.” The inspection result determines which of those remedies is appropriate; both are covered by the filed remedy at no charge. The stated consequence of the defect is possible loss of drive power. The filing’s statement that Rivian knew of no related accidents or injuries applies only as of the time of its submission, not to later events. Do not assume that a warning associated with the separate 2024 campaign applies to every vehicle included in the 2025 recall.

How to arrange a check and service appointment
- Find your VIN. Use the vehicle’s VIN when asking about recall coverage; model year alone is not enough to determine whether a campaign applies.
- Ask Rivian to verify campaign status. Request confirmation of whether the vehicle is affected and whether the campaign remains open. For the 2024 campaign, applicability depends on vehicle-specific campaign information.
- Request service through the Rivian app or contact Service Support. Rivian identifies both as ways to request service. Rivian service-request information
- Follow vehicle-specific warnings and instructions. The 2024 campaign bulletin says a related display or app fault message should prompt service as soon as possible. - Confirm the location and logistics before the appointment. Ask whether Rivian will handle the work at a service center or whether another arrangement is available, and what transportation options apply to your appointment.
Will Rivian repair it at home, and how long will it take?
Rivian describes mobile service for many service needs, while noting that work is limited to what can be done safely in that setting; more extensive repairs may require a service center. That general policy does not promise a mobile appointment for either battery campaign. The 2024 campaign specifies a service center as the minimum location for pack replacement. The campaign materials do not provide a general repair-duration or parts-wait estimate, a loaner commitment, or a current completion rate for an individual vehicle. Ask Rivian about appointment availability, expected time, and transportation arrangements for your vehicle and location.

Why the two campaigns should not be confused
The 2025 action is a safety recall addressing a possible grounding fault in the HVDB, with joint repair or pack replacement depending on inspection. The 2024 action is a customer-satisfaction campaign for vehicles with potentially suspect cells, for which the bulletin directs pack replacement when the vehicle-specific campaign information shows it applies. A Rivian battery campaign therefore does not, by itself, mean every vehicle receives a new pack.
